About the Role :
As an Optical Engineer on this program, you will play a vital role in the development and testing of advanced laser communication systems. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to design, build, and test free-space and fiber-optic systems for space-flight applications.
This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Responsibilities :
- Develop and execute assembly and test procedures for free-space and fiber-optic systems intended for space applications.
- Define optical performance and tolerance requirements.
- Support the installation and testing of optical components, assemblies, and payload systems using thermal chambers, vacuum chambers, and shock and vibration stages.
- Build and align free-space optics assemblies and testbeds (lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, etc.).
- Perform fiber-optic assembly, including high-reliability fusion splicing processes for specialty fiber types.
