Hiring Now Instructional Aides for SPED programs in multiple school campuses.

Selected applicants will need to obtain AB1172 Certification. The company will fully cover the costs associated with acquiring this certificate.

Scope of work :

You will be supervising and ensuring the safety of the children with learning disabilities.

We are looking for exceptional individuals who are great working with children and teenagers.

You will be working as an aide in the SPED program as Instructional Aide - Sensory and Behavioral Needs Support (student requires toileting)

Experience working with children with a diversity of special needs / disabilities / autism spectrum is a plus but not a must . All training and certificates will be provided by the company including CPR, CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), and De-Escalation.

Typical shift (vary from student to student) is 5.5 to 6 hours.

The ideal candidates are highly responsible individuals with a lot of patience, calmness yet outgoing and positive.

Ongoing paid training will be provided.

Essential Functions : Under the direction of a certificated teacher, assist in providing instructions to individual (or small groups of students) experiencing special learning needs.

Monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance.

Perform a variety of clerical and supportive duties related to classroom activities.

Assists in the safe supervision of special education children engaged in learning and activities by

  • a) Always Paying a close attention to the safety of the children.
  • b) Assisting in the supervision of special education students.
  • c) Utilizing de-escalation techniques when needed (paid training provided)

Requirements :

Professional, reliable, patient, and responsible.

Ability to work with, understand, and be empathetic to students who have mental, emotional, and physical handicaps.

Assume responsibility for supervising special education students; exercise patience and tact in dealing with handicapped students.

Successful completion of extensive background screening and on-boarding process.

TB Vaccination card.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION :

Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students in an assigned special education program such as Special Day Class (SDC) or Resource Specialist Program (RSP)

Tutor individual students and small groups of students with special learning needs.

Reinforce and follow up learning and training activities.

Prepare lessons as directed by the teacher.

Assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aides.

Rephrase materials and explain instructions and words.

Administer, monitor, and score a variety of tests.

Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques.

Observe and control behavior of students according to approved procedures.

Assist in the shaping of social behaviors.

Perform a variety of clerical duties such as preparing, typing, and duplicating instructional materials, scoring papers, and recording grades.

Maintain student records and files including confidential student record information.

Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and exhibits.

Operate and assist students in the operation of audio-visual and educational training equipment.

Administer medication in accordance with specific medical instruction.

Perform routine first aid which may include assisting students experiencing seizures or respiratory problems.

Confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet the individual needs of special education students.

Accompany mainstreamed students to regular classrooms as assigned.

Provide individual instructional assistance.

Monitor and assist students with special learning needs in drill, practice, and study activities.

Direct students into safe learning activities and functions.

Maintain an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment

Assist in the development of communication skills with students experiencing language and hearing disorders.

Direct group activities of students as assigned.

Assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities as assigned.

Accompany students on field trips as assigned.

Maintain the confidentiality of student records and information according to established guidelines.

Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures.

Participate in staff meetings, in-service training programs, and parent conferences as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of :

Child guidance principles and practices related to students with special needs;

Problems and concerns of students with special needs;

Basic subjects taught in District schools including arithmetic, reading, writing, grammar, and spelling;

Safe practices in classroom activities;

Basic instructional methods and techniques;

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary;

Oral and written communication skills;

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy;

Basic record-keeping techniques;

Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct;

Operation of office machines and keyboard equipment.

Ability to :

Assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment;

Reinforce instruction to students with learning disabilities,

language, communication, and behavioral problems;

Perform clerical duties related to classroom activities;

Operate and demonstrate the use of laboratory materials and equipment;

Understand and follow oral and written directions;

Learn the procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned duties;

Communicate effectively with children and adults;

Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;

Work confidentially with discretion;

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

Understand and work within scope of authority;

Supervise and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures;

Operate instructional and office equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to : Graduation from High School supplemented by coursework in child growth and development and instructional technology and one year of paid or volunteer experience working with students of various age levels requiring a specialized learning environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment :

Indoor classroom environment.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

Sitting or standing for extended periods of time;

Bending at the waist and kneeling or crouching to assist students;

Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations;

Seeing to read assignments and to monitor student activities;

Lifting moderately heavy objects.

POSSIBLE HAZARDS :

Potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids.

Some students with behavioral liabilities may be more physical than others.
