Position Summary

The ED technician works closely with all members of the emergency team to provide direct patient care, optimize positive patient care outcomes and maintains positive and constructive interpersonal relationships. Understanding and practicing the principles of effective teamwork is key. Demonstrates competency by consistently providing compassionate care equally to all patients while actively incorporating the mission and core values of Blue Mountain Hospital.

The ED technician must provide care in accordance with acceptable medical practice standards and works within their scope of practice as outlined in this policy. Protects confidential/private information related to patients, families, employees and others. Provides constructive input in department development and operations designed to improve patient care. Demonstrates performance by adhering to Blue Mountain Hospital’s handbook and established policies and procedures. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept, culture of excellence and accountability and reflects the Blue Mountain Hospital mission and philosophy.

Essential Job Functions & Duties

  • Respond to emergency medical calls and/or inter-facility transfers for sick or injured person(s), following organization and department life support protocols; and obtain vital statistics and circumstances of injury and/or emergency.
  • Perform patient care per scope of practice and approved protocols, procedures, and policies.
  • Operate emergency medical vehicles in a safe manner and perform operator maintenance on emergency vehicles.
  • Operate specialized medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations
  • Monitor and operate communications equipment to maintain contact with the 911 dispatcher, or other emergency responders.
  • Communicate with professional medical personnel both in the prehospital and hospital settings to obtain instructions regarding further treatment/transport of sick or injured person(s).
  • Complete and maintain logs and patient reports (paper and/or electronic) in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Perform inventory of equipment, supplies, and training aids.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly, and secure manner.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures for work areas and emergency scene.
  • Maintain schedule integrity by fulfilling all scheduled commitments per policy.
  • Lead continuing education classes and/or training to fellow EMS personnel; and CPR and First Aid classes to BMHD staff, community members, and other organization members as needed.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, webinars, onsite continued educations, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, and participates in professional organizations.
  • Any additional duties pertaining to the daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services Department as assigned by the Director of EMS.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Maintains self-motivation and sustains a high level of momentum.
  • Able to successfully prioritize when faced with requests, demands and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts.
  • Must be extremely detail oriented and able to perform accurate and proficient recordkeeping.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, in a fast-paced production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to prioritize, highly organized.
  • High work ethic, low absenteeism, attends staff meetings and other mandatory trainings as required.

Education, Experience & Certification/Licensure

Required:

  • A High school diploma or G.E.D
  • A current AHA Basic Life Support certification (BLS HCP)
  • Current Oregon EMT license, or CNA 2 license in good standing.
  • Current and valid drivers license

Preferred:

  • Advance Life Support (ACLS) certificate issued byb AHA
  • Pediatric Advanced Life support (PALS) certificate issued by AHA
