What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic/Intermediate/Advanced | Part Time position at Blue Mountain Hospital District?
Position Summary:
The EMT provides high quality medical care and works as a member of the emergency medical team, providing pre-hospital care and transportation of sick or injured person(s) to a medical facility. The EMT operates emergency medical vehicles in a safe manner, and performs duties assigned by the Director of EMS that further departmental missions such as, but limited to, readiness and improvement in performance and safety. Assist in the hospital Emergency Department when not performing EMS patient transportation.
Providing the highest quality medical care possible is the goal of the EMS department. As such, step-ups in pay are given for an advanced EMT certifications such as the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and the Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-I).
ESSENTUIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promotes the mission, vision and values of BMHD.
- Respond to emergency medical calls and/or inter-facility transfers for sick or injured person(s), following organization and department life support protocols; and obtain vital statistics and circumstances of injury and/or emergency.
- Perform patient care per scope of practice (EMT certification levels) and approved protocols, procedures, and policies.
- Operate emergency medical vehicles in a safe manner and perform operator maintenance on emergency vehicles.
- Operate specialized medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations
- Monitor and operate communications equipment to maintain contact with the 911 dispatcher or other emergency responders.
- Communicate with professional medical personnel both in the prehospital and hospital settings to obtain instructions regarding further treatment/transport of sick or injured person(s).
- Complete and maintain logs and patient reports (paper and/or electronic) in an accurate and timely manner.
- Perform inventory of equipment, supplies, and training aids.
- Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly, and secure manner.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures for work areas and emergency scene.
- Maintain schedule integrity by fulfilling all scheduled commitments per policy.
- Assist in continuing education classes and/or training to fellow EMS personnel; and CPR and First Aid classes to BMHD staff, community members, and other organization members as needed.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, webinars, onsite continued educations, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, and participates in professional organizations.
- For 8 and 12 hours shifts the EMT is stationed in the hospital Emergency Department and performs front-desk functions of registration and assist in the clinical care of hospital patients when not on EMS transports or other EMS department tasks. Clinical care, for example, is phlebotomy or patient vitals as permitted by the certification level of the EMT.
- Any additional duties pertaining to the daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services Department as assigned by the Director of EMS.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Required: High school diploma or G.E.D., at least one (1) year of emergency medical experience at the EMT level OR any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the required duties.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Oregon EMT license
- Current BLS Provider certification,
- Current and valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- HAZMAT awareness certification
- EVOC certification
- ICS 100
Preferred:
- NREMT EMT certification, ICS 200, DPSST Instructor 1 or equivalent.
- Oregon Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) license
- Oregon Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-I) license
