Location: The Freehouse
Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Head Brewer
Job Scope: Brew beer, following specific recipes, observing all sanitation and safety procedures, while promoting beer through marketing and restaurant functions. Perform beer distribution functions. Clean beer lines and faucets. Represent BPRC and The Freehouse appropriately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Clean, inspect, and sanitize all equipment, tanks, and work areas to maintain beer quality. Clean draft lines and faucets at The Freehouse.
Follow production schedule and operate equipment properly to produce consistent beers and maintain acceptable inventory. Equipment includes: grain handling, hot & cold liquor tanks, mash/lauter tun, brew kettle/whirlpool, manifolds & pumps, fermentation vessels, serving vessels, DE filter, transfer lines, keg cleaner/filler, pallet jack, glycol chillers, draft dispense equipment including brewery gas and beer engine.
Maintain (or assist in maintaining) all brewery records: brew sheets, inventory, accounts payable, and governmental compliance paperwork.
Evaluate and monitor quality of beer and raw ingredients involved in brewing.
Possess good beer knowledge and a good sense of smell, distinguishing flavors, and colors in beer.
Maintain good supply of clean and filled kegs, and deliver to BPRC restaurants weekly.
OTHER DUTIES:
Participate in FOH shift meetings and help staff with beer knowledge and sales.
Participate in beer dinners and festivals, guest relations, and marketing/promotions/charitable events. (Schedule will vary daily and weekly, including days, evenings, and some weekends.)
Conduct brewery tours when available.
Increase your own beer and technical knowledge on an ongoing basis.
Participate in MN Craft Brewers Guild.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Commercial brewing experience; bachelors degree; brewing school is a plus, restaurant experience is a plus.
Organized, detail-oriented, and process-focused! This is a production brewing position.
Competent with Google Apps (Microsoft Office) & standard computer functions.
Follow procedures consistently, but have the ability to problem solve. Willing to get assistance as needed.
Communication with staff, guests, and groups; training, tours, etc.
Basic knowledge of plumbing and machinery mechanics/maintenance and troubleshooting.
Safely drive our refrigerated box truck for keg delivery (Valid drivers license, safe record and personal insurance required; CDL not required).
Must be 21 years old, because sampling and evaluating beer is required as appropriate.
Physical Requirements:
30% Lift 60 lbs. from ground to shoulder high.
30% Lift 175 lbs. from ground to waist high and moving along the floor/up & down stairs.
20% Climb stairs, ramps, and ladders up to or exceeding 20 times per day.
10% Work in small and confined spaces.
10% Read, write and calculate basic algebra.
Education:
Bachelors Degree, preferably in a related brewery field (chemistry, biology, engineering, business)
