Corporate Payroll & Accounting Specialist

Blue Ridge Beverage Company, Inc., a leading distributor of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages in Central and Southwest Virginia, is looking for a full-time Corporate Payroll & Accounting Specialist to help grow our business.
The Corporate Payroll & Accounting Specialist manages the payroll function for the company. Provides general support to the Corporate Accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and shares responsibility for accounting processes and internal controls.

Duties:
- Maintain, review and process payrolls on an accurate and timely basis, in coordination with Accounting and Human Resources.
- Monitor timecard records for errors relating to hours worked, paid time off, and unpaid time; communicate with managers/employees for resolutions.
- Review changes for pay period and verify accuracy of data entered by Human Resources and managers.
- Compute commissions, audit overtime hours, enter other special pays as scheduled.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state tax laws.
- Serve as primary point of contact for employees with payroll inquiries, maintaining a high level of service.
- Facilitate various financial, insurance, and regulatory audits; prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Document payroll related processes through flow charts and other approved methods and update with changes; identify and recommend internal controls in payroll related areas.
- Assist with a variety of other processes and functions, including, but not limited to, financial closing, account analysis and benefits reconciliation, .
- Generate data and reports for the various reporting packages, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years’ experience in accounting and/or payroll required. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software package and/or payroll submission software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with strong Excel skills.
- Good oral, written, and overall communication skills.
- Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Availability to travel to other Company locations, less than 10%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of direct payroll and/or general accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience in payroll processing, utilizing an external provider (ADP, Paycom, etc.).
- Previous experience in a payroll or financial analyst role.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing, interpreting, and preparing fiscal/accounting records and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of US taxes regarding payroll.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) software package.
