Job Purpose:
This Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Teacher will design and implement specially designed instruction for a classroom of ESS general curriculum students in grades kindergarten through second grade. Services are provided in a separate class model, and in coordination with support from an ESS Paraprofessional(s). The ESS Teacher will design classroom instruction to include whole group, small group, and individual instruction and supports. The ESS Teacher will manage an IEP caseload for the classroom and collaborate with professionals to ensure students’ IEPs and standards-based instruction needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Specially designs instruction to include kindergarten, first grade, and second grade standards.
- Demonstrates cooperative leadership skills when working with an ESS Paraprofessional(s)
- Collaborates with administrators, teachers, therapists, support staff, and parents to support student progress.
- Complies with IDEA and state special education rules pertaining to timelines, procedures, and guidelines for IEP development.
- Facilitates IEP meetings at the direction of the building administrator.
- Completes special education documentation according to Dalton Public Schools local procedures.
- Manages classroom behavior and individual student behavior plans when needed.
- Implements individualized communication systems for students who require them.
- Implements medical plans and toileting protocols when necessary.
- Maintains student records, including special education records, confidential records, records of services provided, and behavioral data.
- Administers formative assessments in order to progress monitor IEP goal attainment.
- Participates in professional organizations, professional learning opportunities, and continually seeks to enhance professional knowledge and skills or as directed by a supervisor.
Qualifications:
To be qualified for this position the employee must possess certification in the following:
- Special Education- General Curriculum Consultative (P-12) Certification and
- Elementary Education Certification or Content Area (P-5) Special Education Cognitive Level Certification in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Science.
- Advanced training in behavior management (BCBA, ABA trained), preferred but not required.

This position works 190 days.

Salary : $49,052 - $92,360
