Plant Manager
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this key operational role will oversee and monitor all operations, functions, and employees within the plant and warehouse. This role is pivotal in ensuring efficient production, meeting quality standards, fostering a safe and compliant workplace, and addressing employee concerns. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to lead cross-functional teams, enhance operational efficiency, and maintain effective communication across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee all aspects of production, personnel, and customer interactions.
- Develop and implement production schedules to optimize efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards for all products and processes.
- Maintain an accurate inventory system for raw materials, finished goods, and supplies.
- Coordinate with maintenance for preventive maintenance and minimize downtime.
Employee Development and Supervision
- Recruit, train, retain, and develop a skilled workforce.
- Monitor performance, provide feedback, and address issues proactively.
- Lead cross-training initiatives to enhance workforce versatility.
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Customer and Supplier Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, brokers, and the sales force.
- Address customer concerns promptly and ensure satisfaction.
Safety and Compliance
- Actively enforce company safety policies and maintain a safe working environment.
- Participate in safety training programs, including HAZMAT and emergency response.
- Investigate incidents, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
Quality Assurance
- Uphold Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards.
- Conduct audits and inspections to maintain compliance.
- Resolve quality concerns swiftly and implement preventative measures.
Communication and Reporting
- Effectively communicate operational updates and changes across departments.
- Provide regular feedback and updates to management on plant performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to employee, operational, and safety matters.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in plant or operations management.
- Strong understanding of GMPs, HACCP, and food safety standards.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communicator with the ability to motivate and lead diverse teams.
- Proficiency in inventory management and production scheduling.
- Commitment to fostering a safe and compliant work environment.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Food Science, Food Manufacturing, or equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
- 5 years in leadership role supporting manufacturing operations
- Organizational and decision-making ability; Must have strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills in dealing with individuals both internally and externally are critical to success
- Root cause problem-solving techniques: Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; Gather and analyze information skillfully; Develop alternative solutions
- Physical: Sitting/Walking/Climbing as required in a manufacturing environment
