Purpose
The Driver Safety Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and efficiency of the company's drivers and fleet operations. This position is responsible for fostering a culture of safety, mitigating risks, and ensuring that all transportation activities align with regulatory standards and company policies. Through proactive leadership, training, and data-driven strategies, this role enhances operational safety and efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
- Create and execute comprehensive driver safety initiatives to enhance overall fleet performance.
- Regularly review and update safety policies to reflect regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Ensure strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of driver certifications and training while conducting regular safety education sessions.
- Lead investigations into vehicle accidents, incidents, and near-misses, collaborating with risk management services to handle claims effectively.
- Report to and work with risk management services to manage claims.
- Conduct safety training sessions for drivers and fleet staff.
- Analyze safety performance metrics and implement strategies to reduce risks.
- Partner with operations, HR, and fleet managers to align safety goals with business objectives, while promoting open communication with drivers.
- Promote open communication to address safety concerns from drivers.
- Leverage telematics, GPS tracking, and driver monitoring systems to assess safety performance and drive improvements.
- Analyze key safety indicators, such as driver behavior, fuel efficiency, and accident rates, and implement strategies to reduce risks and enhance efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Transportation, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in fleet safety management or a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Certification in fleet safety (e.g., CDS, NATMI) is a plus.
- Leadership and coaching abilities to foster a strong safety culture.
- Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
- Expertise in incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with emerging fleet safety technologies (e.g., AI-based monitoring).

Salary : $65,000 - $80,000
