Purpose

The Driver Safety Manager is to ensure the safety, compliance, and efficiency of a company's drivers and fleet operations. This role focuses on promoting a culture of safety, minimizing risk, and ensuring that all transportation-related activities align with regulatory standards and organizational policies.

Requirements

Job Responsibilities

• Create and implement comprehensive driver safety programs.
• Regularly update safety policies to reflect regulatory changes and industry best practices.
• Ensure adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
• Monitor and maintain driver qualifications, certifications, and training records.
• Investigate vehicle accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
• Report to and work with risk management services to manage claims.
• Conduct safety training sessions for drivers and fleet staff.
• Analyze safety performance metrics and implement strategies to reduce risks.
• Work closely with operations, HR, and fleet managers to align safety goals with business objectives.
• Promote open communication to address safety concerns from drivers.
• Utilize telematics, GPS, and driver monitoring systems to improve safety outcomes.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) like driver behavior, fuel efficiency, and accident rates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, Transportation, or a related field (preferred).
• Proven experience in fleet safety management or a similar role.
• In-depth knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Certification in fleet safety (e.g., CDS, NATMI) is a plus.
• Leadership and coaching abilities to inspire a culture of safety.
• Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
• Expertise in incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with emerging technologies in fleet safety (e.g., AI-based monitoring).
