What are the responsibilities and job description for the VETERINARY TECHNICIAN - OPHTHALMOLOGY position at BluePearl?
As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals.
- Pay :
- 21 - $42 / hour
- This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our CareerTrax leveling system.
- As an Ophthalmology Veterinary
- Technician,
- you will :
- Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
- Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
- Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
- Outpatient procedures : diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
- Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
- For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation / anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
- Anesthesia training is available with help or our anesthesia specialist
- Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
- Be the frontline in educating clients on their pets ocular disease and care
