Position Summary:
We’re seeking a compelling and confident Executive Writer to support high-level strategic messaging for the Defense agency's Corporate Communications Division. This role will craft speeches, official statements, and executive correspondence for senior military and civilian leaders. The ideal candidate possesses a strong grasp of public affairs, defense policy, and STEM initiatives, and is skilled in translating complex technical material into accessible, powerful narratives.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary speechwriter for agency's senior leaders, crafting briefings, talking points, keynote remarks, and ceremonial scripts.
Translate technical and policy-driven content into clear, persuasive language for public and internal consumption.
Support high-profile events, conferences, and senior leader engagements with polished content that reflects organizational priorities.
Collaborate with visual and digital teams to align messaging across multiple formats.
Tailor tone, structure, and cadence to match individual leadership styles, while maintaining organizational clarity and voice.
Research policy documents, historical context, and technical background to inform speeches and briefings.
Maintain a responsive and flexible writing process in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, English, Political Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
5 years of executive writing, speechwriting, or high-level public affairs experience—preferably in a government, defense, or technical environment.
Proven ability to write for senior-level leaders and strategic stakeholders.
Superior grammar, editing, and storytelling capabilities.
Familiarity with DoD communications standards, public affairs protocol, and internal review processes.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams and departments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background supporting communications in a STEM, defense, or public health environment.
Experience developing briefings for congressional hearings, media engagements, or stakeholder updates.
Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain DoD clearance
