This is a long term contract opportunity. This role is NOT open to C2C, OPT, or Visa consideration. No vendor support needed. The Technician in Network Operations is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks, small cell networks, and associated transmission equipment. The role involves troubleshooting, network monitoring, and ensuring high-quality service delivery with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure safety for yourself, team, customers, and the public.
- Address network outages, impairments, and emergencies in assigned areas.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections following company standards.
- Install, test, and provision SONET, DWDM, and Ethernet equipment in fiber networks with minimal supervision.
- Use fiber optic, SONET/Ethernet, and Small Cell/RF test equipment such as OTDR, Optical Power Meter, RF power meters, and spectrum analyzers.
- Troubleshoot network issues and assist NOC and customers in resolving problems.
- Perform site surveys and quality checks at remote locations to ensure standards are met.
- Perform software and hardware updates on site equipment as needed.
- Access network nodes and complete administrative tasks on a PC or similar device.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Adhere to all company policies and ensure safe work practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 3-5 years experience in fiber optics, Ethernet, SONET, RF, or telecommunications testing preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), ability to work independently, and knowledge of fiber optic, RF, and Ethernet systems.
- Certifications: Wireless/Wireline/Ethernet certifications or equivalent experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior technical experience in RF, Ethernet, SONET, video, or fiber optic testing is a plus.
- Experience using web-based ticketing and network monitoring systems.
Work Environment & Requirements:
- May require travel to remote locations.
- Physical demands include working with test equipment and climbing to perform site surveys and maintenance.
