Fiber Network Design and Route Planning
- Plan and design fiber optic infrastructure layouts according to project specifications.
- Use GIS tools to analyze the current infrastructure, identify potential deployment locations, and determine the best fiber routes.
- Conduct site assessments and coordinate with local governments to understand zoning and permitting needs.
- Design routes that optimize both current needs and future network growth, taking environmental and accessibility factors into account.
Cost Estimation and Budgeting
- Create precise and comprehensive cost estimates for fiber installation projects, covering labor, materials, and required equipment.
- Use GIS data to calculate material requirements and refine project budgets.
- Collaborate with project managers and technical teams to ensure alignment between cost estimates and project plans.
Geographic Data Analysis & Mapping
- Maintain and develop detailed fiber network maps using GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Leverage GIS data to pinpoint cost-effective and efficient fiber routes, considering geographical challenges and regulatory constraints.
- Provide recommendations for optimizing the network's design and operational efficiency based on data analysis.
Collaboration and Project Support
- Partner with engineers, field teams, and project managers to ensure the timely execution of fiber network projects.
- Keep network plans updated throughout the lifecycle of the project and adjust as necessary.
- Ensure all updates and changes to fiber network designs are accurately reflected in GIS databases.
Documentation & Reporting
- Keep thorough and organized records of all network designs, cost breakdowns, and GIS data.
- Regularly report on the status of ongoing projects, including any budget adjustments or changes to cost estimates.
Desired Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Engineering, GIS or Geography.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fiber optic planning or cost estimation, with expertise in GIS technology.
- Familiarity with industry standards for fiber optic design and deployment.
- Proven experience with GIS software, particularly for network mapping and route planning.
Skills & Expertise
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret geographic data and apply it to network planning.
- Proficiency with GIS software and spatial analysis tools.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure design, including various deployment methods like aerial and underground.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in cost estimation and project management.
- A team-oriented mindset, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Strong communication skills, both in writing and verbally.
Additional Certifications (Optional but Preferred)
- GIS cert (e.g., GISP, ESRI).
- Fiber optic design or project management cert
