The Project Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial health of the projects assigned to them. This role will oversee day-to-day operations on all accounting activities related to projects, including but not limited to client invoicing and true-up of budgeted cost, maintaining accurate and complete financial records for each project, reviewing costs incurred along with supporting detailed information, identifying and resolving budget variances, and addressing gross margin issues with the operations team. This position is highly visible and requires a strong individual who can prioritize, plan, and communicate well with all positions on the Operations Team, external vendors, and clients on all project related matters. This is not a supervisory position
What you’ll do….
- Monitor project progress from inception through completion
- Anticipate, identify, and work with the project team to resolve project issues
- Analyze cost variances and discrepancies, providing insights and recommendations to project managers
- Proactively communicate concerns or issues to project management and accounting management.
- Process and review subcontractor work orders and pay applications for compliance with respective Master Service Agreements.
- Enter project costs for labor, consumables, and equipment based on submitted Daily Field Reports. Communicate to field superintendents any issues or discrepancies identified and resolve
- Monitor and track project costs, including direct and indirect expenses, labor, and materials to ensure they’re being captured on a timely basis and coded to the appropriate cost code
- Ensure all vendor bills, work orders, and purchase orders are being processed timely and accurately. Review all for correct payment terms and proper cost coding.
- Process clients pay applications and invoices according to project specifications and client SOPs
- Perform project close-out financial and administrative functions
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation, explanations, and reconciliations related to project costs
- Assist team members to increase quality control.
- Be the field point of contact for vendor support and communications.
- Communication of concerns or issues to project management and accounting management
- Perform other duties and tasks as required
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited university required.
- A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience required; cost accounting experience preferred.
- Qualifications:
- Must be a team player who is also able to work independently and adhere to BlueTeam’s core values
- Knowledge of or experience within the construction industry a plus
- Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting principles.
- Must have the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on assigned tasks and responsibilities.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Proficiency in Acumatica or other construction ERP software applications preferred.
- Must be collaborative and able to work with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Must be detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy, work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, have the flexibility to deal with multiple changing priorities and be able to also meet deadlines within determined timeframes.
- Must be self-motivated and a critical thinker who possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess a process improvement mindset with willingness to challenge current processes.
- Experience in providing exceptional customer service to a broad base of stakeholders with ability and interest to learn business operations.
