Summary
The Information Technology Supervisor oversees and manages the IT department’s daily operations while also playing an active, hands-on role in the management of network infrastructure, cybersecurity, firewall protection, and technology-related projects. The IT Supervisor leads a team of IT workers while actively contributing to the district’s technology initiatives, balancing managerial duties with technical tasks to ensure the school district’s IT systems, infrastructure, and cybersecurity are running smoothly and securely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.
- Lead, supervise, and oversee the training of a team of IT professionals responsible for maintaining technology systems across the district.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the IT department’s goals, policies, and procedures.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the IT team, ensuring that requests, support tickets, and projects are completed efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Ensure the stability, security, and efficiency of the district's network infrastructure, including broadband connectivity, wired and wireless systems.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to optimize network speed, security, and reliability.
- Manage network hardware and software configurations, ensuring proper maintenance, security, and compliance.
- Oversee the district’s cybersecurity strategy and practices to protect data, systems, and network resources from cyber threats.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats and develop strategies to mitigate risks and vulnerabilities.
- Manage and execute technology-related projects, including system upgrades, software deployments, and new hardware installations.
- Develop timelines, budgets, and project plans, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Maintain documentation for all systems, networks, security measures, and IT procedures.
- Regularly review and update disaster recovery and backup procedures to ensure system resilience and data protection.
- Represents Somerset County Public Schools in the state-wide CIO User Group and related activities.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
At least five years of experience in information technology, with a focus on network management, cybersecurity, and systems administration is required. Strong experience with firewall management, networking protocols, and security best practices is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current, relevant certifications from Microsoft, Dell, Apple, HPE Aruba, or Palo Alto, are preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license as travel in and out of the County will be required.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional and trade journals, technical procedures and manuals, or instructional textbooks and instructional aides. Ability to write reports, detailed plans, and procedure manuals as directed. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be a persistent and creative problem solver. Must be detail oriented and have the ability to prioritize work. Must be able to review and interpret highly technical information.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have familiarity with cloud-based services, device management, and educational technology tools. They should also have hands-on experience with network troubleshooting, hardware and software management, and system configuration best practices.
Other Skills and Abilities
Plan, design, and maintain data networks and servers; provide technical support; administer day-to-day operation of networks; explain technical information in non-technical terms to staff; ability to learn new software and hardware operations.
