JOB TITLE: Bus Attendant/Instructional Aide
REPORTS TO: Campus Director
DEPT. / SCHOOL: Academic / Bob Hope School / Beaumont Campus
WAGE / HOUR STATUS / TERMS: Non-Exempt/Full Time/10 months
Pay Grade: Bus Attendant starting hourly rate: $10.87 / Instructional Aide starting hourly rate: $12.00 minimum-$17.00 max
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Assist the driver of a school bus that transports students with or without disabilities and other authorized personnel to and from schools or designated locations.
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Bus Attendant:
- Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
- Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs.
- Instruct students on safe entering exiting and riding rules and regulations.
- Assist in the management of student behavior and report student discipline problems in a timely manner
- to appropriate staff.
- Assist in the completion of accurate, updated and timely records including attendance sheets.
- Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Ensure that seat belts, safety vests or
- car seats are used correctly and help students use safety vests or car seats
- Follow emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and assist driver to
- administer first aide, if necessary.
- Become familiar with and follow procedures established by the transportation
- departments.
- Maintain a positive morale and display professionalism in dealing with students, parents, staff and
- community.
- Assist driver in keeping the bus clean for the safety of the students.
- Promote a positive image that supports the mission of the school district.
- Attend safety meetings and participate in training.
- Operate a bus lift.
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding special needs students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional Aide:
- Provide direct instruction to students under direct supervision of teacher, in Spanish and/or English.
- Conduct instructional exercises and implement specialized interventions and strategies for Newcomers/ELL students assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Assist in classroom management.
- Conduct parent involvement activities.
- Provide translation from English to Spanish, vice versa
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays as needed.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of ELL equipment and instructional resources.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as needed.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in departmental meetings and special events as assigned.
- Adapt to changing demands when assisting teachers who provide instruction for distance learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education. Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus. Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages.
