JOB TITLE: Bus Attendant

REPORTS TO: Campus Director

DEPT. / SCHOOL: Academic / Bob Hope School / Beaumont Campus

WAGE / HOUR STATUS / TERMS: Non-Exempt/Full Time/10 months 

Pay Grade: Bus Attendant starting hourly rate: $12.00/ Inst. aide rate $16.50

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Assist the driver of a school bus that transports students with or without disabilities and other authorized personnel to and from schools or designated locations.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

                High school diploma or G.E.D.

               

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to operate safety and adaptive equipment
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to work well with children with disabilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

Bus Attendant:

 

  1. Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
  2. Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs.
  3. Instruct students on safe entering exiting and riding rules and regulations.
  4. Assist in the management of student behavior and report student discipline problems in a timely manner
  5. to appropriate staff.
  6. Assist in the completion of accurate, updated and timely records including attendance sheets.
  7. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Ensure that seat belts, safety vests or
  8. car seats are used correctly and help students use safety vests or car seats
  9. Follow emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and assist driver to
  10. administer first aide, if necessary.
  11. Become familiar with and follow procedures established by the transportation
  12. departments.
  13. Maintain a positive morale and display professionalism in dealing with students, parents, staff and
  14. community.
  15. Assist driver in keeping the bus clean for the safety of the students.
  16. Promote a positive image that supports the mission of the school district.
  17. Attend safety meetings and participate in training.
  18. Operate a bus lift.
  19. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding special needs students.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Radio communication equipment, wheelchair lifts ram, seatbelts, safety vests, car seats, special adaptive equipment; safety equipment (reflective signs); fire extinguisher

Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education.  Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus.  Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Baytown, Texas.  The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
