POSITION TITLE: Director of Learning and Engagement
SUPERVISED BY: Director & CEO
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This new position will help to shift the engagement paradigm of the Museum, including programs delivered through the Education Department and the Art School, interactive components in the galleries, and the overall visitor experience. Working closely with the Director & CEO, the Director of Learning and Engagement is part of the leadership team establishing and assessing the Museum’s strategic direction and will lead a cross-departmental team to refine, detail, and implement the new engagement plan. This position directly supervises the Education Department, the Art School, and Visitor Services.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate current programs throughout the museum against strategic goals for engagement; oversee development of new methods of engagement, including but not limited to: introduction of “discovery facilitators;” self-guided visitor experience tools including Bloomberg Connect tours; interactive components in the galleries; marketing collateral; etc.
- Collaborate with Directors of Education and the Art School to create programmatic synergies between the two programs.
- Oversee strategic partnerships through which the Museum will develop programs addressing defined community needs and expanding the museum’s presence within the community.
- Work collaboratively with development staff to identify funding opportunities to support engagement strategies.
- Advocate for the Museum at the local, regional, and national level through efforts including presentations and scholarship as approved by the Director & CEO.
- Other projects and tasks assigned by the Director & CEO.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum MA in arti history, art education, museum studies, or related field and 5-7 years of progressive and relevant managerial experience in a museum; Ph.D. a plus.
· Track record of innovative public programming and strategic thinking, in accordance with current museum best practices (AAM, AAMD, other related professional organizations).
· Exceptional communication skills (written/verbal/visual); excellent interpersonal skills.
· Ability to successfully navigate multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment
· Unquestionably ethics, integrity, and trust
· Team-oriented and courteous; must be able to encourage open discussion of different ideas and views, welcoming and soliciting input; a keen and empathetic listener and learner.
HOURS OF POSITION
· Full-time, 40 hours per week-Exempt/Salaried
