Position Summary
The Coordinator of Behavior is responsible for providing coordinated behavioral interventions and supports to help students access their instructional programs. This role involves implementing, monitoring, and evaluating behavioral strategies, as well as providing consultation and support to parents, teachers, administrators, and staff. The coordinator will work with school systems and community stakeholders to ensure effective behavioral interventions. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in developing and implementing policies and practices for managing student behaviors.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, social work or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate.
- Minimum of (3) three years’ experience in school district administration or teaching capacity; special education experience preferred.
- Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in special education, psychology, social work or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Strong background in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Applied Behavior Analysis, special education, and relevant policies.
- Certification by the National Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or other appropriate professional organization. Trainer status preferred.
- Credentialed by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. (BCBA)
- Successful experience providing services to students in diverse school settings.
- Experience as IEP chairperson.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and implementation of various programs, including early intensive behavior intervention, discrete trial training, pivotal response training, and other evidence-based teaching methods aimed at supporting the success of students with autism and other behavioral challenges.
- Help coordinate all special education services and supports within the district and contribute to the development of new special education programs when necessary.
- Develop and establish District policies and procedures for special education services, ensuring adherence to appropriate educational codes and guidelines.
- Collaborate with State and Federal agencies involved in providing educational services for students with disabilities and work closely with community organizations that offer special services.
- Collaborate with school teams to plan and develop strategies for providing positive behavior supports and services to both students and teachers.
- Organize staff development activities to support teachers, assistants, and other staff working with students who have autism and other behavioral challenges.
- Offer training programs for teachers and staff on data collection, behavioral analysis, positive discipline techniques, and autism-related program planning.
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and other relevant assessments for students with behavioral challenges.
- Plan, implement, and/or supervise staff members who execute behavioral intervention plans in collaboration with school teams.
- Conduct on-site visits to provide consultation, training, and assistance to staff members.
- Participate as an active member of the IEP team, contributing to placement, review, and transition decisions, as well as presenting behavior plan analysis, current performance levels, and developing IEP goals.
- Participate in due process hearings, complaint investigations, compliance reviews, and District self-reviews as necessary.
- Offer intervention strategies for both general education classrooms and individual students exhibiting high-risk behaviors.
- Act as a liaison between the district and other service-providing agencies, including non-public schools, Regional Centers, and the Department of Mental Health.
- Implement the policies, goals, and philosophy of the district as approved by the Board of Education.
- Provide necessary information for required reports to both the State and the District.
- Participate in special projects as assigned by the district.
- Seek opportunities for professional development through conferences, professional meetings, and coursework, as applicable.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality of the position.
- Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Frequent walking, Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching.
Lifting: Occasional moderate lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive equipment.
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours.
