About the Opportunity
Boies Schiller Flexner LLP is seeking a litigation Paralegal for the Miami office. Candidates should be flexible to work frequent overtime, occasional weekends and have the ability to attend trials; working in a team environment is pinnacle to this position.
Qualifications:
- Paralegal certificate (registered paralegal with state or nationally certified is preferred), two or four-year college education.
- 6 years of law firm experience is required.
- Excellent computer skills are required. This includes experience with all Microsoft Office Applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and administrative skills are required.
- Possess knowledge of Westlaw, Lexis, Pacer, PacerPro to pull case law, statutes, court dockets, and documents.
- Possess familiarity with document databases, e.g. Relativity, Rational, Case Notebook, Trial Director, etc.
- Utilization and familiarity with a document management system – e.g., NetDocs, iManage, Worldox etc.
- Utilization of legal billing software – e.g., iTimekeep, Intapp, Rocket Matter, MyCase etc.
- Bilingual (Preferred)
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Participate in case planning, development, and organization, including management of task list for assigned cases.
- Conduct legal and factual research. Gather facts and retrieve information and/or documents, as requested by an Attorney. Collect, compile, review, and utilize legal, factual, or technical information to make an independent decision and recommendation to the supervising Attorney.
- Review, analyze, and summarize court filings and other legal documents, including documents produced in the litigation.
- Filing with the Court – State and Federal including filing under seal.
- Manage court filings in coordination with Attorneys and the Legal Assistants. Review court filings for proper form, including conformance with Bluebook, state, federal, and local rules of the court, prior to filing. Be familiar with judicial and court procedures for hearings and trials. Prepare exhibits, and if necessary, redactions to documents. When required, electronically file and/or transmit documents to the court.
- Draft, edit, and assist with the preparation of written discovery, correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents. Prepare privilege and production logs at the supervising Attorney’s direction.
- Assist, coordinate, and manage discovery, including the preparation of tracking charts. Participate in document collection, maintenance, management, and production. Coordinate with outside vendors, including medical, investigative and court reporting services, and manage relationships with same.
- Assist attorneys with the preparation for depositions and court appearances. Summarize transcripts from depositions, hearings, and trials. Attend depositions and court hearings, including trial and trial sites, as requested.
- Coordinate file management, including organizing and updating case files.
- Manage calendar for assigned cases, including docketing case deadlines, when required. Prepare summary charts, calendars, case information sheets, as requested.
- Work with experts and transmittal documents for use in depositions, evidentiary hearings, and trials.
- Assist attorneys and participate in trials, evidentiary hearings, arbitrations, including coordinating with vendors, IT personnel for courtroom and trial site logistics, and managing deadlines.
- Attention to detail is a must, and strong organizational skills.
- Be able to work independently and be a team player to complete filings, and tasks at hand. Be able to communicate and articulate effectively with case teams.
