We are seeking a Meat & Seafood Associate responsible for a variety of operations in the meat department, including production of all meat and seafood items, cleaning and maintaining the department in accordance with the Co-op’s high standards. They possess effective communication skills and work to build relationships with customers, coworkers and suppliers.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to greet and engage with customers.
  • Maintains an atmosphere of customer awareness and an emphasis on fast, friendly, courteous customer service. Engages with and interacts with customers for suggestive selling.
  • Maintains respectful communication with all co-workers.
  • Wash, stack, sort, and stores dishes, utensils, and cookware ensuring dish area is organized and meets all cleanliness standards.
  • Cleans all equipment including the flat top grill, stainless steel pans, drains and drain covers, grinders, saw, and all worktables.
  • Cleans case windows and all surfaces visible to our customers including the tile walls.
  • Maintains clean floors by spraying and mopping, when necessary, throughout the shift.
  • Monitors trash cans and cardboard, ensuring they are our taken out to the dumpster and baler regularly.
  • Ensures proper transferring, cooling, and storing (including labeling and dating) of selected meat items while following proper rotation.
  • Understands, and avoids food temperature “danger zone.”
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures while adhering to all Idaho laws regarding food safety and sanitation.
  • Observes safety and security procedures while reporting potentially unsafe conditions immediately to your Department Managers.
  • Uses all equipment correctly while using proper safeguards.
  • Practices behaviors that exhibit a strong work ethic while encouraging teammates and promoting an environment of teamwork.
  • Cooks and prep food samples.
  • Properly operates a sausage stuffer ensuring a consistent product for our customers.
  • Ability to break down the saw, grinder, meat tenderizer, Seafood case, and Meat case for clean-up duties.
  • Completes temperature checks as directed by temperature logs.
  • Rotates the dates in the cooler when down stacking the load.
  • Rotates the dates when putting any product out on sales floor.
  • Ability to learn and retain what you have learned.
  • Ability to identify all cuts of meat.
  • Ability to safely use a knife.
  • Able to anticipate and follow through on what must be done to ensure full successful operation in the Meat department.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and must be committed to providing excellent customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Department Manager or Assistant Department Manager.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Ability to exhibit a strong work ethic and encourage teamwork.
  • Handle basic issues and problems and refer more complex issues to high-level staff.
  • Able to perform assigned tasks within various areas of the department and in a timely fashion.
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Ability to build relationships and foster an environment of Collective Harmony.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
  • Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Meat department experience preferred, but not required.
  • A food handlers' certificate is required.

Physical Demands

Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Working Environment

Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
