We are seeking an experienced Produce Assistant Manager responsible for assisting the department manager in driving sales and maximizing gross profit by leveraging advanced product knowledge and meticulous attention to detail, enhancing the customer experience by ensuring the freshness and quality of produce while also promoting effective merchandising strategies, and assisting with inventory management to ensure optimal stock levels and freshness.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist department manager with department schedules, time clock entries, and staffing levels in line with labor expense to sales and leadership consistency.
- Lead daily operations in the manager’s absence, including ordering, receiving, staff direction, display building, and floor readiness.
- Train, schedule, and motivate staff for productivity and efficiency.
- Set an example in customer service, productivity, and work ethic.
- Organize daily workload to manage freight, back stock, shelf stocking, and product rotation.
- Ensure cleanliness and order in coolers, work areas, storage areas, and floors.
- Work closely with our Category Management team to ensure in-stock conditions and core set execution.
- Execute product handling procedures for proper storage, rotation, stocking, and back stock levels.
- Ensure procedures for processing known loss, invoices, and special orders are followed.
- Maximize merchandising opportunities with well-planned product sets/displays that attract consumers.
- Ensure all products are accurately labeled with descriptions, ingredients, and prices.
- Adhere to Idaho food safety and sanitation laws; ensure staff compliance.
- Assist with the coaching and evaluation of staff.
- Assist manager with attendance, performance, and employee issues documenting personnel actions per Co-op procedures.
- Foster a positive team environment, which includes improving associate morale, communication, and overall working conditions to ensure a cohesive and motivated team.
- Ensure staff training in all department aspects, including customer service, ordering, pricing, stocking, storage, rotation, displays, and handling freight and invoices.
- Coordinate daily huddles and regular meetings for effective communication.
- Maintain close communication with all relevant support staff for seamless operations and addressing any issues promptly.
- Maintain a high presence on the floor to assist employees and customers.
- Attend department meetings and stay informed about vendors, products, and delivery schedules.
- Model leadership and work ethic, demonstrating objectivity and calmness under pressure.
- Meet all Sales, Labor, Shrink and Margin goals and metrics as outlined by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
- Perform additional department or store duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrate the highest level of ethics and integrity in all actions.

- Be willing to work over 40 hours per week, when necessary, to cover business needs.

- Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
- Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
- Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 4 years of retail experience, preferably grocery
- Possesses knowledge of leadership, supervision, and training principles and practices.
- Current food handler’s card and other certification as required by federal, state, or local agencies is a plus.
Physical Demands:
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Working Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
