We are seeking an experienced Meat Department Manager responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Meat department staff, assigning tasks and directing workflow, setting the tone regarding the highest food safety and quality standards and ensuring unwavering world-class customer service.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Possess expert knowledge of department functioning and can anticipate and follow through on what must be done to ensure fully successful operations of the department.
  • Ensure that all meat display cases, coolers, work areas, storage areas, and floors are in a clean and orderly condition that meets all Health Department requirements.
  • Enforce department procedures to ensure safe food handling, preparation, and sanitation procedures.
  • Meet all Sales, Labor, Shrink and Margin goals and metrics as outlined by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) while looking for ways to improve sales and promote quality, efficiency, and productivity and keep shrink in line with targets.
  • Manage inventory by checking inventory levels, ordering meat products on schedule and conducting monthly inventories.
  • Manage product quality by ensuring product integrity and proper rotation.
  • Work closely with our Category Management team to ensure in-stock conditions and core set execution as well as recipe accuracy and development.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage communications, learn quickly, and build relationships with all levels of the organization; anticipates guests and store needs by evaluating the environment.
  • Develop a strong workplace morale by encouraging employees, helping them develop professionally by achieving individual goals, and objectives. Coach and assist in evaluating staff members while following Co-op procedures for documenting personnel actions. 
  • Manage the hiring and scheduling of the department staff, ensuring staffing levels are in line with approved labor expense to sales ratios, and providing enough coverage for smooth continuous operation of the department.
  • Develop and maintain training programs ensuring 100% compliance with all food safety and sanitation efforts while also adhering to all Idaho food laws.
  • Create and maintain a culture of safety in the department.
  • Always deliver world-class, concierge-style customer service with peers, customers and suppliers.
  • Model leadership and work ethic by demonstrating objectivity, neutrality, and calmness under pressure.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and develop positive relationships with both the team and entire store by addressing individual motivation, needs, and concerns.
  • Communicate with staff, colleagues, and leadership regarding all business-related matters.
  • Attend all department meetings and have working knowledge of sales promotions and calendar events.
  • Maintain strict job-related confidentiality, attend trainings as necessary, manage workload and prioritize tasks.
  • Work Leader-on-Duty (L.O.D.) shifts as scheduled, focusing on total store operations.
  • Perform other duties in the department or the store as delegated by the Store Manager and or other members of the Senior Leadership team.

  • Strong working knowledge of all food safety practices, and ability to uphold high standards.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite, Outlook, Excel, & Power Point.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
  • Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • 3 years as a Department Manager in a retail environment is required.
  • 3 years working in a Meat department.
  • Serv-safe Certifications-Manager preferred. 

 

 

Physical Demands:

Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

 

Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
