The Role
We are seeking a Formulation/Analytical Chemist to join our innovative R&D team, focused on developing personal care products. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in formulation, analytical testing, and lab operations, contributing to creating cutting-edge products for skin, hair, and color cosmetics. Success in this role will require a candidate who is willing to learn new skills, is capable of cross-functional collaboration with other departments, and can work in a fast-paced, fluid environment. This is a full-time, on-site position in Hayward, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
Formulation Development
- Develop and produce formulation batches ranging from 50 to 500 g.
- Focus on personal care formulations, including skin, hair, and color cosmetics.
- Conduct qualitative assessments and ensure product appeal.
- Execute work within a GLP-compliant environment (bonus).
Analytical Testing
- Perform QC/QA testing of formulations and raw materials, including stability testing.
- Conduct analytical testing using microscopy, viscosity, and pH analyses.
- Utilize HPLC and SEC for advanced testing (preferred).
- Apply rheological techniques to evaluate product performance (bonus).
Documentation and Compliance
- Author and maintain quality procedures and lab documentation.
- Accurately document stability and ongoing test results in lab books.
- Adhere to best practices for data integrity and record-keeping.
Lab Maintenance and Support
- Prepare solvents and buffers as needed.
- Manage hazardous waste disposal in compliance with regulations.
- Restock and replenish consumables to ensure seamless lab operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related field
- 2 years of experience in personal care product formulation, preferably in an R&D setting.
- Proficiency with analytical testing techniques, including stability testing and microscopy.
- Familiarity with HPLC, SEC, and rheology is highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to GLP standards.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to document and share results effectively.
