What are the responsibilities and job description for the Native Perennials Manager position at Bombus Ecological Solutions?
The ideal candidate for this position is a qualified individual with experience in all stages of native potted perennial nursery planning, preparation, growing, and maintenance of superior-quality native plants. The position requires a qualified candidate to oversee many facets of nursery work, including, but not limited to, plant care, propagation, and order fulfillment. Applicants must be passionate about the production and care of native plants.
Responsibilities
- Manage the overall logistics of the native perennials side of the business.
- Determine types and quantities of native plants to be grown based on budget and projected sales volume; manage and monitor inventory of nursery stock; diagnose and address any problems with plants, such as nutrient deficiencies, soil, pest and/or disease problems, cosmetic damage, and water issues.
- Oversee production and health of inventory.
- Oversee order fulfillment and delivery.
- Train staff in safe efficient nursery operations and proper plant care, including potting, watering, pruning, weeding, cultivating, fertilizing, spraying, and safety.
- Supervise assistants and assign work schedules; assure safety, implement policies and regulations; pull plant orders.
- Perform or oversee the maintenance and general repairs of irrigation systems, heaters, greenhouses, & equipment.
- Deliver high-quality/value plants to the ecological restoration industry.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in nursery management and/or a Degree in Horticulture preferred.
- Solid understanding of plant health care and propagation techniques
- Strong ability to identify native herbaceous perennials, grasses, and ferns.
- Ability to work full days outdoors, including some weekends during peak growing season.
- Proficient computer skills
- Strong communication skills
- Light truck and trailer proficiency
- Forklift experience
- Must have a valid driver's license and applicable pesticide application license.
Physical Requirements: Carry or lift at least 50 lbs and walk on uneven ground. Tolerate working outside in the elements in all seasons and weather conditions. The body's senses of sight, hearing (safety), and verbal communication or the use of technology to compensate for the lack of those abilities is required
