Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position
The Financial Aid Officer is responsible for working with students, both prospective and continuing, and their families and educating them on all types of Federal Financial Aid, State Grants, and Institutional Scholarships available through Mercy College of Ohio. This position requires excellent customer service and the ability to work with a diverse population. In addition, the person must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Requires a bachelor’s degree and experience within a Financial Aid Office.

Essential Job Functions
- Counsel and advise students about Financial Aid application procedures, aid programs, cost indebtedness, eligibility and basic financial planning; individualizes information to the particular needs and situation of each student.
- Assists in awarding, collecting, and due diligence of Federal, State and Institutional funds and programs.
- Assist the Director of Financial Aid in planning, organizing, developing and implementing the Federal Work Study Program to ensure that eligible students receive assistance, information and funds.
- Administers the verification process by collecting verification documents from families and preparing verification worksheets for the Director's review
- Develops and maintains outside scholarship resources for students.
- Serves as liaison between Mercy College, students, families, faculty and community to ensure positive relations and accurate knowledge of financial assistance programs.
- Strategically uses financial aid as a recruitment and retention tool for continuing students.
- Remains current on Federal, State, Local and accreditation standards related to student financial assistance programs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
