Job Summary
The Certified Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in facilitating operative or invasive procedures by preparing and providing sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team.
Education and Certification: An Associate Degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology is required. Additionally, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Candidates must be certified as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA), or Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). In Virginia, Registered Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification with the Virginia Board of Medicine is also required.
Experience: One year of perioperative, operating room, or related military surgical technology experience is preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedures while maintaining aseptic technique.
- Assists with pre and post-procedure cleaning of the operative room and instruments.
- Prepares and performs surgical skin prep and clipping as indicated by procedure.
