Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Coordinator Behavioral Health is responsible for the data collection and analysis regarding cost, quality, and service indicators. Forecasts, plans and manages resource requirements within the unit for effective and optimal utilization. Evaluates systems and processes and makes recommendations for continual improvement. Responsible for managing and serving as a resource for computerized programs, including but not limited to: statistical databases, staffing and scheduling, patient acuity, payroll and Risk management.
Employment Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or working toward degree required.
- Master’s degree in business or health related field preferred.
- Previous work experience in a health care environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of management theories, i.e. finance, leadership, CQI.
- Proficiency in computer systems and software programs applicable to the position.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.
Essential Job Functions

Conducts ongoing assessments toward achievement of center goals, targets, and outcomes.
- Prepares reports regarding progress at agreed-upon intervals.
- Disseminates information to appropriate individuals.
- Assists in the development of systems to ensure efficient and appropriate data collection and analysis.
- Facilitates the collection, analysis, and dissemination of quality data.
- Proficient in the use of word processing, database, spreadsheet, and graphics software programs.
- Prepares special reports, studies, and proposals as needed and requested.
- Develops, coordinates, and monitors strategies for obtaining, organizing and allocating human and material resources required for inpatient and acute care transition.
- Establishes collaborative practice with nursing personnel, physicians, and healthcare professionals regarding the plan of care. Identifies variance in plan implementation. Identifies necessary resources or eliminates unnecessary resources needed to achieve quality patient outcomes.
- Proactively identifies and creatively problem solves barriers to access of community services and identifies gaps in the continuum.
- Reviews inpatient medical record and physician treatment plan to obtain approval of admission and to validate necessity of continued stay.
- Collaborates with patient access, financial counselors and/or business office regarding billing issues related to third party payers.
- Completes appeal process and maintains documentation relevant to appeals.
- Maintains appropriate paperwork an attention to detail to minimize denial rate.
- Proactively engages physician about issues regarding cost of diagnostics, consultations and length of stay.
- Understands data relative to patient populations and utilizes information to improve quality and reduce cost.
- Determines medical necessity and appropriateness of each admission applying established admission criteria.
- Works collaboratively with peers to achieve department goals in daily work as evidenced by appropriate and timely communication which is respectful and clear. Sensitive to workload of peers and shares responsibilities, fills in and offers help.
- Actively participates in department process improvement team, planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities.
- Will actively demonstrate excellence in service behaviors to increase patient satisfaction/PRC scores.
- Will participate in the Gallup Impact Plan for department to improve work environment.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
