Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, a law firm of 300 attorneys in over 30 practice groups, is accepting applications for a full-time Director of Business Development in our Syracuse, NY office to support our Marketing Department. This position plays a vital role on Bond’s marketing team, driving efforts to enhance the business generation activities of the law firm’s practice groups. The mission is to elevate the business generation activity of our law firm's practice groups.
Position Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with the attorneys under the guidance of the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), the Director will help define and execute business growth objectives, identify target opportunities, and implement business development and marketing plans.
- Provide impactful guidance to attorneys on client relationship building and marketing techniques.
- Collaborate with practice and industry group leaders to craft annual business development/marketing plans that outline clear objectives, strategies, tactics, timetables, accountability, progress metrics and ROI goals.
- Identify research needs for practice and industry groups and ensure the timely delivery of insights to drive targeted business opportunities.
- Using independent judgement and initiative, proactively recommend, develop, and manage initiatives that support, encourage and accelerate practice and industry group growth/success.
- Assess internal and external event-related activities, including conferences, seminars, sponsorships, and speaking opportunities, in partnership with the Professional Development team to determine strategic fit and ROI potential. Recommend whether to continue, discontinue, or modify these activities. Oversee and support planning and execution efforts, leveraging diverse marketing and staff resources.
- Work with the CMO, practice group leadership and attorneys to develop new approaches to identifying and pricing legal service by identifying core strengths, competitive differentiators, and client value propositions.
- Proactively identify opportunities to assist the attorneys in cross-selling services across the firm.
- Collaborate with attorneys to create customized business development and practice plans, tailoring approaches to align with their unique strengths and personalities. Drive engagement and accountability by tracking progress, providing regular follow-ups, and ensuring active participation. Identify and target ideal prospects, guide personal brand development, and support attorneys in executing their growth strategies effectively. Conduct market research for marketing and business development initiatives and cross-referencing data from various firm databases (InterAction and Aderant) and online research tools.
- Assist the proposal manager in the preparation of responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) and other pitches for new or expanded business, working closely with attorney teams and marketing resources to meet content requirements and submission deadlines.
- Supervisory duties include oversight of the proposal and editorial specialist.
- Work with the CMO and other firm partners on a variety of projects.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required, masters degree preferred
- 8 years’ related business development, marketing, or product management experience
- Experience developing business development plans
- Ability to effectively facilitate and manage teams
- Demonstrate a proactive, action-focused mindset and tackles challenges with optimism and a solution-driven attitude.
- Exhibit strong creative thinking skills and a knack for developing innovative solutions and approaches.

This position's salary range is between $110,000 to $120,000, negotiable based on years’ experience.
