Salary Range (Based on experience): $38.40 - $56.83 (scale includes a 20% PRN premium)

POSITION SUMMARY
Obtains two dimensional ultrasonic recordings, and Doppler and color flow analysis of the heart and related structures for use by Physician in diagnosis of heart abnormalities and disease.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attaches electrodes to patient's chest to monitor heart rhythm during the cardiac ultrasound exam.
- Keys patient information into ultrasound computer.
- Starts ultrasound equipment that produces images of real time tomographic cardiac anatomy, and adjusts equipment to obtain quality images.
- Moves transducer by hand, over patient's chest, observes ultrasound display screen, and listens to Doppler signals to acquire data for measurement of blood flow velocities, and observes color flow patterns for assessment of blood flow.
- Prints graphic analysis recordings and records and transmits images for storage on Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS).
- Measures heart wall thickness and chamber sizes and compares measurements to standard norms to identify abnormalities of the heart.
- Measures blood flow velocities and calculates data such as cardiac physiology and valve areas for evaluation of cardiac function.
- Reviews and processes cardiologist report
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Qualifications: Ability to perform each essential function in a safe, caring and satisfactory manner.
- Work experience: Six months to one (1) year clinical experience required.
- Education/Certifications/Licenses: Minimum of an Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent, or 1 year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) not required, but preferred.
- Desired Work Traits: Regular Attendance. Excellent technical and critical thinking skills in relation to sound patient care judgement.
- Communication Skills: Maintains effective and professional communication with physcians, co-workers, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS:
Operates cardiac ultrasound (echo) equipment, as well as office equipment such as computers, printers, copy machines, calculator, facsimile, and scanners.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typical working conditions involve sitting, working at a computer, walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, pushing equipment and wheelchairs, assisting in positioning and lifting patients. Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and other conversations.
