BOONE COUNTY HOSPITALPOSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for leading the Information Technology Department of BCH. As such, they will be accountable for developing and implementing the strategic roadmap for both on-site and hosted infrastructure solutions. Includes strategies around compute, storage, identity and access management, backups, disaster recovery, etc. Participates in the development and implementation of organizational and departmental goals and action plans while ensuring that they are congruent with the Hospital's strategic plan and monitors performance and makes adjustments as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides supervision and oversite of Information Technology Department Staff.
- Installs and maintains enterprise software.
- Installs and maintains network infrastructure.
- Installs and maintains server infrastructure.
- Installs and maintains storage and virtual infrastructure.
- Ability to quickly and completely solve complex, inter-related problems using hardware/software research and analysis tools.
- Maintains network security and resolves network security issues when discovered.
- Designs and implements backup infrastructure and performs system backup and restore procedures.
- Provides cross-training to other Information Technology staff members.
- Maintains equipment and software license records as required.
- Participates in departmental on-call duties.
- Collaborates with software vendors to develop integration and interfaces to existing systems.
- Researches and reviews commercial software packages to determine applicability to needs of the organization. Determines compatibility with existing systems.
- Acts as an expert resource person concerning the functionality and capabilities of installed information systems. Assists users and other staff by solving system problems and, if needed, contacting the vendor for additional support.
- Verifies the functionality provided in software releases prior to installation in the live environment.
- Collaborates with vendors and other departments to coordinate user education.
- Coordinates information security by issuing security codes to all new employees, creates user profiles and passwords for new employees.
- Works directly with information technology vendors during implementation of new systems.
- Maintains department documentation and records as directed.
- Uses vendor developed reports, query tools, ad hoc report writer tools, computer programs and other available tools to extract desired information
- Responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, documentation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for server infrastructure, storage infrastructure, virtual infrastructure, and mission critical enterprise systems.
- Assesses potential impacts of future architecture on current server infrastructure, storage infrastructure, virtual infrastructure, and mission critical enterprise systems.
- Identifies future system needs, researches, identifies, and plans for the technology that will eventually become necessary to implement at the infrastructure level.
- Develops infrastructure solutions which align business requirements with the functionality and constraints of related technology solutions.
- Coordinates and provides project management leadership for complex system implementations involving a diverse group of team members including IT, departmental staff, vendors, consultants, and administration.
- Ability to complete the most complex and challenging system implementations.
- Provides guidance and project direction to other staff members and serves as an expert resource within the Information Technology department.
- Assumes leadership role in problem-solving efforts, often involving outside vendors and consultants, other medical center personnel, and other organizations.
- Takes 24x7 ownership of assigned systems.
- Performs related work as required.
- Understands and actively follows all HIPAA/HiTech regulations and policies.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Qualifications: Bachelors degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field; Or, Expert Level Certification in one of the core system areas: ex. Cisco CCIE, Microsoft MCSE, VMware VCDX, SANS Security CISSP.
- Work experience: A minimum of four years of demonstrated expert level skills and knowledge in one or more of the following core system areas: Microsoft server operating systems, LAN/WAN infrastructure, virtual servers & storage management, telephone systems, software application systems, system security, or system interfaces.
- Desired Work Traits: Ability to interact with staff, physicians, visitors, consultants, and vendors in a helpful and positive manner. Ability to handle multiple requests/needs simultaneously; ability to remain calm when experiencing critical system issues. Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially when handling confidential information. Excellent customer service and project management skills. Expert level knowledge of HIPAA/HiTech regulations and policies. Ability to plan, organize, implement, and document complex systems and to configure systems to be consistent with medical center policies and procedures. Proven Ability to manage and meet deadlines. Knowledge of IT budget preparation and planning.
- Communication Skills: Able to convey complex issues in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
