Program Duration: 6 Weeks, beginning June 30, 2025 until August 8, 2025 (must be present all 6 weeks). Closed 7/4
Hours: 25 hours per week
Position Overview:
We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated Arts and Crafts Instructor to join our team for the Matawan Borough Summer Recreation Camp. The Arts and Crafts Instructor will lead and facilitate daily art projects for children, ensuring an engaging, educational, and fun experience. This part-time position is perfect for individuals passionate about working with kids and inspires creativity in a summer camp setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver daily arts and crafts lessons for children ages 5 - 13.
- Design and prepare art materials, tools, and supplies for each activity.
- Provide a comprehensive list of supplies to the Director three weeks prior to the start of camp
- Provide instruction on a variety of artistic techniques (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpting, beading, etc.).
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
- Supervise and assist children with the completion of their art projects.
- Manage classroom behavior and resolve conflicts in a positive and respectful manner.
- Collaborate with other camp staff to integrate arts and crafts projects with the overall camp weekly themes.
- Keep track of materials and ensure supplies are stocked and organized.
- Assist in setting up and cleaning up art areas before and after activities.
- Maintain clear communication with camp leadership and parents regarding camper progress and any issues.
- Ensure a safe environment for children by following camp safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children aged 5 to 13 is preferred.
- Background or interest in arts, crafts, and creative education.
- Ability to effectively communicate and inspire children.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A positive, energetic, and adaptable attitude.
- Previous teaching or camp counselor experience is a plus.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp starts) is a plus.
Additional Information:
- Position is part-time, with hours ranging from 8:30 am – 1:00 pm 5 days per week.
- Pay: Hourly $17.50 - $20 commensurate with experience.
