Job Description
- Tool maker position will machine various components to print specification using various conventional and/ or CNC machines.
- Must be able to select the correct machine for the job based on operations, precision, and complexity.
- Will be responsible for selecting the correct tooling and work holding based on the job.
- Must have knowledge of speeds and feeds based on different materials.
- Be able to create CNC programs using CAD/CAM and/or conversational programming and/or on-machine G code programming.
- Have ability to source/ select correct materials based job requirements.
- Knowledge of GD&T and inspection methods using toolroom gauges.
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Tool-making apprenticeship completion or 5 years toolmaking machining experience required.
- Journeyman status highly desired
- Minimum four years of experience in precision machining, including turning, milling, ID (Internal Diameter), OD (Outer Diameter) & surface grinding
- Wire EDM & conventional EDM experience a plus
- Computer aided machining (CAD/CAM) a plus
- Experience writing CNC programs is required
- Expert in various measurement tools, ID, OD and depth micrometers, height gage, manual CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine)
- Expert in prints including geometric dimensions
- Working knowledge in materials, tools steels, aluminum and stainless steels
- Experience in material heat treating including tempering
- Must be able to communicate effectively with supervision and other personnel with the ability to create clear technical instructions
- Familiar with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel)
- Must be able to function in a noisy and fast paced environment
- Demonstrates self-initiative
- Must demonstrate mechanical proficiency, leadership ability, and teamwork
- Must be willing to work on alternate shifts and must demonstrate the ability to adapt to changes
- Must be flexible to work other shifts for training, coaching, projects and travel as needed
