    • Assistant Director, Career Education Exploration & Peer Career Coaching
    • Assistant Director
    • at the Boston College Career Center plays a vital role in supporting the Centers mission to empower students to incorporate their career goals into a life of meaning and impact. Guided by the Career Centers Explore, Prepare, Act model and rooted in the values of a Jesuit liberal arts education, the Assistant Director encourages students to discern their gifts and talents and apply them in ways that make a positive impact, regardless of their background.
    • The Career Education team within the Career Center supports students and recent alumni around seven common career paths and a range of programmatic initiatives. This position will currently focus on Career Exploration through one-on-one career coaching, delivery of career programming, and creation of online resources. In addition, Assistant Directors lead a Career Center programmatic initiative. This position will also oversee the Peer Career Coaching program, which involves hiring, training, and supervising 10 Peer Career Coaches and a Graduate Assistant. The role requires strong relationship-building skills, a genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, excellent organizational skills, and adaptability to evolving trends in career services. The Assistant Director is also deeply committed to advancing the Career Centers efforts around diversity, inclusion, and social justice.

    • Individual and Group Career Coaching
    • Serve as an expert in helping students discover their interests, skills, and values and in exploring how those align with career options.
    • Serve as an office expert on self-assessment tools such as Focus2 and CliftonStrengths.
    • Provide one-on-one and group career coaching to undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni on career-specific information to help them explore their career interests and prepare for and conduct a job, internship, or graduate school search; topics include industry exploration, search strategies, preparation of application materials, interview preparation, and salary negotiation.
    • Create and update educational materials on a range of career topics, including web content and worksheets.
    • Adapt coaching style to the unique backgrounds and identities of Boston College students.
    • Maintain proficiency with online tools, resources, and career coaching methods to continuously improve services to students.
    • Support the overall work of the Boston College Career Center by providing career coaching to all students during drop-ins and during peak times in the academic year.
    • Peer Career Coaching Program Management
    • In close collaboration with Career Center leadership and colleagues, continuously evaluate the role of the Peer Career Coaches to ensure the program best addresses and aligns with the strategic direction of the Career Center.
    • Hire, train, and directly supervise up to 10 undergraduate Peer Career Coaches each year.
    • Coordinate scheduling and project assignments of each Peer Career Coach.
    • Develop innovative strategies for Peer Career Coaches to drive earlier awareness and visibility of career opportunities through the Career Center.
    • Conduct assessment and evaluation to support programmatic development and outcomes.
    • Supervise one graduate assistant who will help support the coordination of the Peer Career Coaching Program.
    • Programming, Strategy, Relationship Management & Engagement
    • Develop and implement a plan to address the needs of students exploring multiple interests or unsure of their interests, values, and skills.
    • Coordinate and present 90-minute classroom presentations focused on career discernment in collaboration with the Cornerstone faculty.
    • Build relationships and maintain regular contact with relevant campus partners in Student Affairs, Mission and Ministry, Academic Affairs, and student organizations.
    • Review and recommend appropriate career resources and web content for exploring students.
    • Conduct assessment and evaluation to support programmatic development and outcomes.
    • Assist with administrative responsibilities such as operations planning, data management, and reporting for the Career Center, Division of Student Affairs, and Boston College.
    • Maintain comprehensive records on engagement with students and employers.
    • Cross-Functional Teams and University Initiatives
    • Serve on various cross-functional teams to promote the vision and direction of the Career Center; support the overall work of the Career Center teams strategic priorities and major events and programs, such as career fairs and Endeavor.
    • Lead a team in implementing one or more Career Center team-wide programs or initiatives.
    • Contribute to the Career Centers strategic planning process in order to evolve Career Center services and programs.
    • Represent Boston College and the Career Center in local and national professional associations and conferences in order to stay current with industry standards and changes; revise programs to reflect trends and increase the centers visibility of professionals in the field.
    • Represent the Career Center on divisional or university committees.
    • In order to create a more inclusive community within the Division of Student Affairs, each staff member is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

      The position offers a limited flexible and hybrid work schedule that suits the Career Centers business needs. As a student-facing role, this position requires the staff member to primarily be in person and on campus.

      Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following hiring ranges :

    • 0-3 years of experience
    • 63,800 - $79,750
    • 3 years of experience
    • 70,800 - $88,150
    • Requirements
    • Bachelors degree required; relevant Masters degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Human Resource Management, professional degree, or related degree preferred
    • Minimum of 1-3 years of previous experience coaching students on career or related issues
    • Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting diverse populations (e.g. students of color, LGBTQ , first generation)
    • Ability to design, deliver, and present to students and colleagues at workshops and special events
    • Experience in developing and implementing complex career-related programming and in program management.
    • Excellent communication (oral, written, and presentation) and organizational skills.
    • Collaborative and team-orientation working styles and a demonstrated ability to effectively build and manage relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and others.
    • Willingness to conduct program assessment, look critically at results, and use findings to improve Career Center services and resources
    • Understanding of and / or strong desire to understand career services trends and a commitment to staying abreast of shifts in the field
    • Ability to adapt and change with organizational needs
    • Demonstrated comfort with learning and using technology, including new and unfamiliar platforms.
    • Demonstrated commitment and ability to provide strong customer service with the desire to enhance and support the offices image, goals, and objectives through each individual interaction
