What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Development Manager position at Boston Consulting Group?
As Career Development Manager for the Houston office, you will work closely with the Business Management Senior Director("OC") to orchestrate the operations to deliver an excellent Career Development (CD) experience to our Consulting Team (CT) staff and CD stakeholders. Career Development encompasses the core performance management processes for our CT staff, including project-based downward feedback; upward feedback for team managers; twice-yearly holistic assessment by the Career Development Committee (CDC); the Feedback Foundations experience enabling a development-focused start for new Associates and Consultants; and enablement of CD Advisors and team leaders to deliver rich ongoing developmental conversations and experiences throughout the BCG journey.
In this role there are several buckets of day-to-day activities, including:
- CDC meeting preparation and management, e.g.,
- Setting agendas in partnership with CD Heads, OC, and Talent Managers, and overseeing meeting readiness
- Supporting smooth facilitation of CDC meetings
- Working with CD leadership to capture key themes and patterns across cohorts and meetings
- Management of downward and upward feedback, e.g.,
- Owning and driving performance against standards of timeliness and quality
- Acting as source of truth on review process-related questions
- Supporting and enabling local CD leadership (CD Heads, OC, CD Advisors, Talent Managers), e.g.,
- Prepping for and supporting pre-meeting deep-dive discussions and post-meeting debriefs
- Co-facilitating recurring cadence of check-ins on timely topics
- Overseeing assignment of CD Advisors to new and newly promoted CT staff
- Communications to office CT staff, e.g.,
- Supporting or co-facilitating onboarding sessions, trainings, and cohort meetings
- Acting as messenger for key CD communications to CT (regional updates, etc.)
- Other ongoing support, e.g.,
- Leading local strategic initiatives
- Supporting year-end bonus process
- Playing an important role in people analytics, whether supporting analysis of cohort pulse check data, formal global surveys (e.g., People Survey, COVID surveys), or other ad hoc analyses
- Teaming with the Talent Management team to drive efforts to improve/evolve talent deployment and staffing processes in support of talent and business goals; supporting and executing best-in-class programmatic efforts on CT affiliation and belonging (including first-year experience); driving balance and sustainability efforts (e.g., Teaming@BCG, Team Health Dashboard); Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Career Development linkages; Mobility, and more

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)
- BA/BS degree required with 5 years of related work experience in Career Development, HR, staffing, training, or talent development
- Prior experience at BCG or another management consulting firm highly preferred
- Experience in a People-related role highly preferred
YOU'LL WORK WITH
You'll team closely with the People team leaders of the Houston offices including the OC, Talent Team, and CD leadership, as well as a cadre of senior Consulting Team staff who serve as Career Development Advisors and are among BCG's most dedicated people developers.
