Boston Micromachines Corporation, a small high-tech company, is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to compose product manuals, specification sheets, and maintain website content for its suite of award winning optical MEMS devices and instrumentation. This position is part-time, temp-to-perm for a 3-month initial period. Boston Micromachines is a leading provider of advanced optical systems for use in biotech, medical, astronomical, and laser applications. Customers include leading optical manufacturers, governmental agencies, and research laboratories worldwide.
The specific job responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s experience and skill set, but will include the following:
- Work with the sales, production, and engineering team to update and write product manuals, production work instructions(WI), standard operating procedures (SOP), equipment guidelines, and other support documents.
- Ensure that all documents follow company and industry formats and standards.
- Create diagrams, images, and other visual tools to best guide readers through the processes of WI/SOP.
- Provide support on future revisions or updates to support documentation.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Technology-related or technical writing related field
- Proven experience working in a technical writing position instructing those in the proper use of hardware and software products
- Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Familiarity with Photoshop or other graphic design tool.
- Strong attention to detail
- Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Corporate social media content composition experience a plus
