The Boston Yacht Club is looking for enthusiastic sailing coaches/instructors who excel in leadership and possess a thorough understanding of teaching youth sailors across various skill levels. Our program emphasizes coaching beginners, intermediates, and those honing their basic racing skills.

While previous coaching experience is valued, it is not mandatory; experience in high school or collegiate sailing is beneficial. Position Overview:

The Head Instructor is responsible for the overall management of the sailing program, reporting directly to the Sailing Director. This role involves collaboration with the sailing Director to address program needs effectively.

Our programs include junior and adult sailing classes in Prams, Optis, Sonars, and a J22. The Head Instructor will mange 5-6 other instructors while also providing coaching.

Specific Duties:

• Collaborate with the Sailing Director to oversee daily management of the junior sailing and private lesson programs, including instructor management.
• Attend and provide leadership for instructor orientation, parent orientation, and setup/breakdown of sailing program equipment and spaces.
• Work approx. 40 hrs per week, including some evenings and weekends, to support sailing lessons for children, adults, and special user groups, as well as racing programs.
• Coordinate instructor schedules and educational program plans with the Sailing Director, including youth and adult learn-to-sail programs, private lessons, and special events.
• Oversee the assignment or reassignment of sailors to appropriate classes.
• Assign lesson plans to instructors or request that instructors prepare lesson plans for the upcoming week by the preceding Thursday. Track instructor’s hours for payroll and report to the Sailing Director.
• Keep track of petty cash receipts and submit them to the sailing Director at the end of each week.
• Determine daily activities base on tides, weather and previous plans.
• Manage and participate in daily activities as appropriate.
• Conduct mid-session evaluations for instructors and junior instructors in collaboration with the Sailing Director.
• Write final evaluations for the sailing director and sailing committee.
• Collaborate with the Sailing Director during awards night.

Job Requirements:

• U.S. Sailing Small Boat Sailing Instructor Level 1, CPR & First Aid, and SafeSport Certified
• Experience in dinghy racing and/or keelboat
• Availability in Marblehead MA from early June to mid August (housing not provided)
• Competitive sailing and coaching experience

Compensation:

Pay is based on experience. We will reimburse for Level 1, CPR & First Aid, and SafeSport certifications.

Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 34 – 40 per week

• Evening shift
• Weekends as needed

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

• Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred)
• Customer Service: 2 years (Preferred)
