Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire 4 seasonal Ag/Wildlife Technician positions. This position will assist with prairie dog management on open space lands, primarily on Agricultural crop-production properties.
This is a seasonal, hourly position. This position will work Monday - Friday from 6:00am-2:30pm. This position will work at Boulder County Parks and Open Space 5201 St. Vrain Rd. Longmont, CO. 80503.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $24.04 hourly

Tentative Hiring Timeline
- Phone Screening: February 26th
- First Round Interviews: March 5th
- Second Round Interviews: March 12th
- Reference Check: March 17th
- Removal of prairie dogs from undesirable locations using live trapping methods and euthanized on-site with carbon monoxide machines
- Assessment of prairie dog colonies on properties; and site surveying for burrowing owl occupancy
- Some prairie dogs will be humanely dispatched for use in predator (black-footed ferret and raptor) recovery programs
- Responsible for maintenance of vehicles, trailers, PERC machines, OHVs, and ATVs per County Policy guidelines
- May assist in placement of visual barriers and other deterrents
- May assist with research projects by non-BCPOS entities
- May assist on other wildlife field work and data entry, such as breeding bird, amphibian, and remote camera surveys, fencing, and elk tracking
- Performs related work, as required
- May be reassigned during emergency situations

Education & Experience

Driver's License
- Must have a valid Colorado (or state of residency) Driver's License and a good driving record.
- Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a current (within seven days of the interview) motor vehicle record.
- If the issuance date of the Colorado Driver's License is within six months, candidate will also be required to provide a current motor vehicle record from the previous state of residency.

- Must be able to work long hours outdoors and able to hike long distances off-trail.
- Position sometimes has variable hours, including nighttime and potential weekend work. Must wear a uniform (supplied).
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum two years of college course work in Wildlife Biology, Resource Management, Ecology, Zoology, Biology, Agriculture, Natural Resources or related field.
- Previous fieldwork, especially with prairie dogs or other small mammals, computer skills, and knowledge of Open Space experience is desirable.
- Ability to work well with others (7-person crew).
- Ability to work alone.
- Ability to work well under occasionally stressful and outdoor conditions.
- Must be able to pass a physical screening consistent with the demands of the job: Frequently lifts up to 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 feet; occasionally lifts up to 30 lbs. from floor to knuckle; frequently lifts up to 20 lbs. from shoulder to overhead; occasionally pushes and pulls items weighing up to 100 lbs.; occasionally performs bi-lateral lift of 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 ft.; frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. from waist level and lowers to floor. Frequently bends at waist, squats, kneels, shovels, and rakes. Occasionally climbs ladder; must be able to stand and balance on ladder; occasionally walks over uneven terrain.
