Boulder County Human Services Department is looking to hire a dynamic group of Eligibility Technicians to be part of our lobby team. As the first point of contact for residents seeking information or assistance with public benefit programs, you'll play an important role in creating a positive experience for everyone who walks through our doors. Our lobby staff are friendly professionals who greet residents, answer questions, accept paperwork, ensure it reaches the right team, and help process paperwork. We are looking for dedicated professionals with the expertise and confidence to join our lobby team. An ideal candidate will possess a friendly and approachable demeanor, combined with the ability to be perceptive and disciplined. They will be capable of managing a heavy in-person workload, handling complaints with calmness and effectiveness, and providing accurate information to our community members.  

Experienced candidates will possess an ability to work in a fast paced environment, work quickly and accurately with minimal supervision at times, and to complete time-sensitive data entry tasks. This position will be responsible for processing benefits applications for the Medical and SNAP programs. They will also contribute to our current ongoing process improvements within the team, utilizing lean methodologies and process improvement strategies to ensure efficient and accurate service for our Boulder community.  
 

This is a full-time, benefited position. Work hours will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. This position requires in office work most of the week (expect 3-4 days in the office) the other day could be worked remotely. In office work will include working out of one of our three different offices: St Vrain Community Hub (515 Coffman St, Longmont), Boulder Office (3460 Broadway Boulder) and/or SE Hub (1755 S Public road, Lafayette). Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime). 
  
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. 
  
Hiring Salary Range: $53,988.00 - $65,874.00 Annually  
  
Tentative Hiring Timeline: 
 

  • Phone Screening: Week of March 3rd 
  • First Round Interviews: Week of March 17th  
  • Language Proficiency Test (as applicable): Week of March 31st 
  • Start Date: April 7, 2025

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

  1. Greet residents in the office lobby and address inquiries in a professional and helpful manner. 
  2. Informs applicants and recipients of relevant requirements and benefits of programs for which they may be eligible.  
  3. Assist applicants in completing forms and securing necessary documents and verification. 
  4. Processes requested changes in the moment for resident’s Medicaid or SNAP cases 
  5. Informs recipients on an ongoing basis of changes in laws and regulations affecting their continuing eligibility. Clarifies and interprets to clients their appeal rights and procedures. 
  6. Enters pertinent data into computer systems and uses appropriate systems to gather and verify data on applicants. 
  7. Triages, sorts, and forwards mail and emails in a timely and organized manner. 
  8. Receives residents’ paperwork and distributes them to the appropriate team for processing. 
  9. Gather and review financial and other relevant information to assess eligibility for public assistance programs. 
  10. Begins the processing of applications and recertifications in the Colorado Benefits Management System (CBMS) including scheduling interviews and entering data into multiple platforms. 
  11. Determines the need for recovery of funds or referral for fraud investigation. 
  12. Performs related work, as required
  13. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of high school graduation or equivalent and two years of experience working with the public. One year in a public assistance program is preferred.

Additional related education may be considered toward required experience.


BACKGROUND CHECK & FINGERPRINTING: 

  • A job offer is contingent on passing a background investigation with fingerprinting.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • One year in a public assistance program
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

  • Experience in front desk operations or providing assistance to the public in a customer service role. 
  • Familiarity with public assistance programs and community agencies offering support to clients. 
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interview and interact with clients, colleagues, and the public. 
  • Working knowledge or commitment to learn about how processes can be improved to benefit our residents
