What are the responsibilities and job description for the Noxious Weed Biodiversity Preservation, Seasonal Technician position at Boulder County?
Boulder County's Parks and Open Space Noxious Weed group is hiring one Biodiversity Field Technician. The field technician will work directly with the full time Noxious Weed Biodiversity Resource Specialist in carrying out their daily tasks in the area of noxious weed management for Biodiversity enhancement on Boulder County natural areas, open spaces, agriculture rangelands, and reclamation/restoration sites. The Biodiversity Field Technician will be required to obtain a Certified Applicator's License for spray applications of herbicide when needed. This position may work with volunteers. This position may require performance of other duties as assigned. Knowledge of integrated weed management methods, plant identification, research and monitoring methods will be beneficial. As a Lead technician Knowledge of herbicides and their application would be beneficial.
This is an hourly position that will work Monday - Thursday from 6:30am - 5pm. This position will work at 5201 St Vrain Road, Longmont, CO 80503.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: 24.04 - 26.45 Hourly
Tentative Hiring Timeline:
Phone Screening: March 11th
First Round Interviews: March 13th
2. Conduct manual, mechanical and chemical control of invasive plants/noxious weeds, independently or as part of a crew.
3. Mix, load and apply herbicides using motorized and handheld equipment
4. Maintain accurate records utilizing GPS and GIS systems
5. Operate gas powered weed/grass trimmers for mowing vegetation
6. Operate, maintain, repair and calibrate equipment
7. Operate off-road vehicles, tank type trucks, and pull trailers (training is provided)
8. Identify and map weed infestations using GIS/GPS technology
9. Work with youth organizations and volunteer groups, which may necessitate working on weekends
10. Perform other duties, as assigned
11. May be reassigned in an emergency situation

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:
Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical
- College Degree or some college coursework in weed science, natural resources management, ecology, or similar field.
- Two years' experience in noxious weed management.
- Two years' experience in plant identification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequently handles hazardous materials, i.e. herbicides.
- May require walking on steep slopes with backpack sprayers, shovels, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs. and carries up to 100 feet (may be performed by two person lift); occasionally lifts up to 80 lbs. from floor to waist; frequently lifts up to 32 lbs. from shoulder to overhead; occasionally pushes and pulls items weighing up to 100 lbs.; frequently lifts and lowers wheelbarrow with 160 lbs. load; occasionally performs bi-lateral lift of 60 lbs. and carries up to 50 ft.; frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. from waist level and lowers to floor. Frequently bends at waist, squats, kneels, shovels, and rakes. Occasionally climbs ladder; must be able to stand and balance on ladder; occasionally walks over uneven terrain.
