What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Parks Technician position at Boulder County?
Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire three (3) Seasonal Parks Technicians. Come work for Boulder County's beautiful park system set in the foothills of Colorado! Get the chance to interact with appreciative park users, spot a variety of wildlife at the trailheads, and take in the picturesque mountain views during your work days. This position is an opportunity to practice your problem-solving skills and work with your hands in an outdoor setting for a community that holds their parks and open spaces in high regard.
The main job functions will include several aspects of trailhead maintenance on a rotating basis: trash/recycling collection and restroom servicing; sign installation and maintenance; tree watering using a 500-gallon water trailer; and collecting a digital inventory of Parks and Open Space assets associated with trailheads.
These are hourly, non-benefited positions that will work 40 hours per week, Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:30pm. These positions will work out of 5201 St Vrain Rd, Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, these positions are non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $24.04 Hourly

Routine trash/recycling collection, restroom servicing, and general maintenance of our park trailhead facilities Sign installation and maintenance at park trailheads, as well as on trails and open space properties Routine tree watering using a 500-gallon water trailer, and assisting Urban Forestry staff in other phases of tree maintenance, including tree planting, pruning, felling, and removals, as needed Collecting digital inventory of Parks and Open Space assets associated with trailheads Operating hand tools, power tools, landscaping equipment, vehicles, and trailers Performing light construction and improvement tasks on park facilities and infrastructure May be expected to attend special work sessions and assist with weekend volunteer events Assisting with other grounds related projects as needed - May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Seasonal Parks Technicians will work primarily in outdoor locations and regularly use available resources such as hand and power tools for necessary jobs
- May work extended periods of time under a variety of environmental conditions including rough, steep terrain; inclement weather, and operating dangerous equipment
- Ability to perform manual labor jobs, such as regular heavy lifting and operation of hand and power tools
- Understanding safety measures and taking precautionary actions while in the field
- Ability to operate trucks and other equipment related to the job, or ability to learn how to operate necessary equipment, such as a 500-gallon water trailer, with training provided
- Knowledge of repairing and maintaining tools
- Strong commitment to cultural responsiveness and inclusion
- Proficiency when working independently on the job with little supervision
PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:
- Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Park maintenance or comparable experience and an ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time in a variety of weather and topographic conditions
- Experience with sign fabrication and installation
- Experience and practice in urban forestry, horticulture, landscaping, or other related field
- Experience with safe use of chainsaws, chippers and other power equipment
- Experience driving a pickup truck and pulling water trailer
- Experience using an asset management system and/or GIS mapping software
