What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vegetation Management Roadside Mowing/Field Technician position at Boulder County?
Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire a three (3) Vegetation Management Roadside Mowing/Field Technicians. County Roadside maintenance team will work with the Vegetation Management Infrastructure Specialist and will be tasked with maintaining all vegetation located within the approximate 600 miles of county road rights of way, trailhead parking lots, and other parks and open space infrastructure. Individuals selected for this role will be tasked with maintaining roadside rights of way for commuter, pedestrian and cyclist safety by operating mowers, conducting herbicide application, manually removing noxious weeds by hand or utilizing handheld weed trimming equipment. Roadside mowing will be completed with large 90-120 horsepower tractors with 10- or 15-foot mowing decks or Ventrac mower. Mowing occurs on active county roadsides during times of light and heavy traffic. Individuals awarded this position will be required to maintain equipment, keep logs of activities conducted, use asset management software and/or GIS/GPS software and equipment in tracking the completion of their mowing duties. Individuals in this role at times will be required to operate handheld weed trimming equipment and or manually hand pull, dig or apply herbicides to noxious weeds in completion of roadside mowing duties. Candidates will be asked to obtain a Certified Operators herbicide application license. The ideal candidates for this position are safety conscious and able to work independently.
This is an hourly, non-benefited position that will work 40 hours per week Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm. This position will work out of 5201 St Vrain Road, Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

1. Safely operate medium size tractors with 10'-15' rotary cutters for mowing vegetation along roadsides during general traffic/commuting hours
2. Conduct basic servicing/maintenance of equipment
3. Manual removal of noxious weeds and vegetation by pulling or shovel
4. Perform minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment
5. Apply herbicides to manage noxious weeds
6. Check/Report current or anticipated mechanical problems with equipment
7. Log daily activities
8. Maintain weekly/daily maintenance log
9. Identification of some noxious weeds
10. Mechanical control (hand pulling, hand cutting, using weed trimmers, etc.) of state listed noxious weeds
11. Applying herbicide for control of noxious weeds or for cut stump treatments of invasive trees
12. Perform other duties, as required
13. May be reassigned in an emergency situation

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position requires the confidence and ability to operate tractors and mowers along busy county roads safely the ability to climb steps in and out of large, cab tractors. The ability to attach and detach equipment from tractors. Work will be conducted in all types of weather. The noxious weed group is a very motivated group who work closely together across all areas of weed management as needed.
- May require Hazardous Materials handling: Frequently handles hazardous materials, i.e. herbicides. May require walking on steep slopes with backpack sprayers, shovels, etc. Working on busy roadways.
- Boulder County will provide all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), will pay for applicator's license and registering up on successfully completing the application and testing process.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:
- Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two or more years of experience with operating large farming equipment, tractors, and mowers
- Knowledge of invasive plants of Colorado
- State of Colorado Certified Applicators License
- Chainsaw operation
