Bowery Residents Committee is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing vital services and support to individuals experiencing homelessness in New York City. We are currently seeking a skilled Homelessness Outreach Support Specialist to join our team.
This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those in need. As a Homelessness Outreach Support Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting our residential programs by assisting in maintaining a safe environment, engaging with clients in an empathetic manner, and addressing their varied needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring residential programs to ensure a safe environment
- Assisting with client engagement and communication
- Screening residents and visitors at the front door
- Creating written documentation, including logbook entries, incident reports, and progress notes
- Managing inventory and supplies, as well as fire safety drills and logs
- Providing emergency first aid, CPR assistance, and NARCAN when needed
- Assisting with inspections and audits
- Escorting clients and serving meals as needed
Requirements for this position include:
- A high school diploma or GED
- CPR certification or the ability to obtain it
- NYC Fire Safety Guard Certification or the ability to obtain it
- NYC Fire Safety Coordinator Certification is preferred, but employees must be willing to attempt to acquire it
- Security guard license is preferred, but employees must be willing to attempt to acquire it
- Food Handler Certificate is preferred, but employees must be willing to attempt to acquire it
- TB clearance when required
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness is preferred
