Job Description :
Under the direction of the Director of Disability Support Services, the Accessibility and Information Technology Coordinator supports the institution in the implementation and monitoring of digital accessibility, including auxiliary aid and support services for students with disabilities. The Coordinator also interprets and ensures Bowie State University's compliance with local, state, and federal laws in compliance with Electronic Information Technology (EIT) accessibility.
Responsibilities :
- Accessibility and Information Technology Coordinator supports the institution in monitoring digital accessibility across Bowie State University.
- Ability to provide accessibility solutions to faculty, staff, and students.
- Manage the university-wide materials conversion (text to alternative format) process for students, problem-solving and recommending best approaches on a case-by-case basis. This includes coordinating the provision of alternative format textbooks and course materials in a timely manner.
- Manage and oversee the Adaptive Technology lab, which includes but is not limited to maintaining equipment, assisting with the acquisition of new adaptive equipment, managing upgrades and updates, managing inventory, tracking loaner equipment, and advising on technical issues to ensure products are utilized.
- Develop and maintain expertise in current and new Assistive Technology (AT), such as Glean, Jaws, Kurzweil, etc.
- Develop and deliver training on IT accessibility and use of Assistive Technology for students, faculty / staff.
- Develop and deliver training for Symplicity / Accommodate, DSS database management system.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of DSS to align DSS policies and procedures with EIT accessibility compliance.
- Participate in departmental, divisional, or campus-wide committees related to technology and accessibility and collaboratively provide training for campus stakeholders.
- Assist the director with developing, revising, and maintaining accessible content on the DSS website.
- Keep abreast of best practices in IT technology, updating pages, and adding new resources in a timely and accessible way.
- Design and deliver training / workshops around IT technologies for stakeholders
- Participate in professional development and training to keep current on disability services
- Plan and implement one annual EIT event to increase awareness of DSS services.
- Assist DSS staff in other functional areas as needed.
