Qualifications:
- Licensed and certified school bus driver in Kentucky or willing to pursue.
- High school diploma, G.E.D., or willingness to obtain a high school equivalency diploma as required by Kentucky law.
- Must pass a driving record check and pre-employment drug screening.
- One year of general vehicle servicing experience
- Must complete and maintain certification as a Kentucky School Bus Inspector.

Basic Function:
Perform unskilled to semi-skilled maintenance, preventive maintenance, and general repairs on district vehicles as needed. Transport buses to external maintenance vendors for inspections and repairs as assigned.
Performance Responsibilities:
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Follow and communicate oral and written instructions effectively.
- Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
- Report unsafe conditions and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Attend required safety meetings, training classes, seminars, and emergency preparedness sessions.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
- Perform daily vehicle inspections, recognizing and responding to equipment malfunctions.
- Conduct general maintenance, including basic mechanical repairs, to keep district vehicles in proper operating condition.
- Inspect and maintain proper tire pressure.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance duties as directed.
- Operate, service, and make minor repairs on equipment.
- Transport buses and other district vehicles to repair facilities as needed.
- Notify appropriate personnel of repairs or maintenance needs beyond routine service.
- Process work orders for parts used on district vehicles as assigned.
- Assist with storing repair parts, supplies, tools, equipment, and materials.
- Assure proper use of tools, equipment, standard maintenance, and safety practices.
- Assure quality and completion of assigned work.
Record-Keeping & Time Management
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, mileage, and parts usage.
- Manage time effectively to meet schedules and deadlines.
- Maintain routine records as required.
Professionalism & District Representation
- Communicate effectively and professionally, demonstrating patience, tact, and courtesy.
- Support positive relationships with school personnel and the community.
- Maintain a professional appearance and serve as a positive representative of the district.
- Act as a consistent and positive public relations agent for school and district programs.
General Duties & Other Responsibilities
- Keep assigned areas clean and safe; perform grounds maintenance such as trash removal and clearing walkways.
- Comply with all board policies, administrative directives, and school regulations.
- Maintain reliable attendance and avoid excessive unexcused absences or tardiness.
- Assist in starting vehicles when needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation, Transportation Supervisor, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent.
