Position Summary: This exempt position is a supervisory role on the Firm’s billing team and is responsible for the quality production of service bills for external clients in our Minneapolis, MN office. The incumbent is part of a team focused on cross-training, shared accountability for results and continuous process improvement.
Responsibilities
Billing:
- Provide day-to-day supervision of the billing team to ensure the following tasks are completed monthly:
- Prepare monthly prebills by established deadline
- Accurately input edits to prebills, as directed by responsible attorneys, before posting, producing and sending final bill to client
- Provide follow-up to internal and external clients regarding status of bills and payments
- Ability to generate and submit electronic bills and perform quality control on upload completion
- Perform analysis of bills and report findings to both firm employees and clients and/or vendor through Microsoft Excel
- Attend and actively participate in department and billing team meetings
- Ability and willingness to collaborate with other members of the accounting department to promote seamless service to internal customers and external clients and vendors
- E-billing set-up as defined by client demand including basic maintenance of e-billing formats and client guidelines
- Provide first level Aderant Expert user support for iTimekeep and Paperless Prebill
- Provide second level support for billing questions
- Provide information to partners and clients regarding billing data (e.g., client rates, historical billing data, client relationship information, pricing, etc.)
- Manage monthly time-posting process in Aderant Expert to include monitoring of daily time entry and follow-up
- Provide ad-hoc analysis on a wide range of billing inquiries
- Provide second level support for collection inquiries and disputes
General Accounting:
- Maintain employee data and changes in Aderant Expert including rates as approved by Director of Client Financial Services
- Provide Aderant Expert software support to the Accounting Department by establishing best practices which includes implementation of new features and tools
- Work closely with designated IT support to test new Aderant processes and software updates
- Prepare month end reports
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place to maintain accurate workflow
- Maintain documentation of responsibilities in desk manuals to ensure complete, accurate and seamless service in cross-training efforts
- Adhere to Firm accounting and billing procedures
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership

Education and Experience
- Associate Degree in Accounting or combination of work and education equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years previous supervisory/mentorship experience preferred
- Minimum of 5 years previous accounting experience
- Previous billing experience in a law firm or other professional services environment preferred but not required
- Experience using Aderant Expert or Elite in a billing environment preferred

Compensation: $95,000-$105,000 DOE
