ASSISTANT MANAGER (FULL TIME)
We are a dedicated, from-scratch bakery located within Boxcar Coffee Roasters' Pearl St Caf, offering a selection of classic breakfast pastries and laminated goods, including croissants, kouign-amann, cookies, canel, and more. Our mission is to create high-quality pastries that complement our curated coffee and tea offerings, providing an exceptional experience for every guest who visits our cafs.
The Assistant Manager at Boxcar will work directly with the Bakery Manager (Head Baker) to create a positive, organized, and efficient work environment. The Assistant Manager assists in all aspects of daily operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to daily production & prep, the Assistant Manager will:
- Maintain company standards of quality and presentation for all bakery products
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety in the pastry kitchen
- Assist Head Baker with hiring process and staff management
- Supervise shifts, delegate prep tasks, and support Bakers as needed
- Place orders on a weekly basis or as needed
- Assist Head Baker with menu development and seasonal changes
- Manage inventory (monthly count, update item & price list as needed)
- Invoice Boxcar cafs for pastries and adjust pars as needed
- Communicate with and invoice customers for special orders
- Attend weekly meeting with Head Baker to discuss Bakery operations
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:
- At least one year of pastry/baking experience is required, and experience in a leadership role is a plus. Enthusiastic candidates with a real desire to learn and grow will be strongly considered.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills (written & verbal)
- Passion for baking and desire to expand skills & knowledge in pastry
- Team player with ability to work independently
- Ability to manage time effectively and delegate tasks as necessary
- Ability to maintain a clean & organized workspace and adhere to standard food safety requirements
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Production shifts begin as early as 4:30AM. Weekend availability and flexibility around holidays is required. This is a full-time position (40hr/week, 8hr shifts) and is compensated at $24-26.40/hour DOE.
