What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bike Park Trail Crew position at Boyne Resorts?
Overview
Bike Park Trail Crew is a twelve-person team responsible for building and maintaining both downhill and cross-country bike trails. Team members work four consecutive ten-hour shifts within a seven-day week and are expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Schedules may vary, and weekend availability may be required. In addition to trail work, Bike Park Trail Crew members may also assist with other Mountain Operations projects, including but not limited to: mountain and facility clean-up, slope reclamation, burning slash piles, and providing support for excavation, road construction, and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Responsible use of hand tools, chainsaws and other equipment
- Raking trail, digging dirt, tree falling, tree liming, tree bucking, and stacking slash piles.
- Working around heavy equipment.
- Building, maintaining, and inspecting wooden trail structures. This includes drops, jumps, bridges, and boardwalks.
- Building new trail tread to specifications and maintaining existing trails to keep them safe and enjoyable.
- Standing and walking for long periods of time on uneven mountainous terrain.
- Must work as a team and contribute to a team effort by good communication and sharing job responsibilities.
- Responsible for keeping trucks, equipment, locker rooms and the resort clean.
- Work concurrently with other Resort and Mountain Operations employees. Must coordinate and communicate heavily with Basecamp, Mountain Bike Patrol, Lift Operations, Lift Maintenance, Road Crew, and equipment operators.
- Use considerable judgement to adapt methods to meet new requirements. Must be able to complete jobs accurately with little direction and work independently.
- Position requires extreme physical exertion. Must be physically fit; must be able to lift, pull and push up to 50lbs unassisted, carry heavy equipment, and hike to job locations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of trail structure
- Experience with chainsaws, in or around heavy equipment, and hand tools preferred
- Trail building experience and forestry awareness is preferred
- Must be an avid mountain biker, riding at an intermediate level or higher.
- Valid Driver’s license required
- Willing to work a flexible schedule and in all weather conditions
