Overview
Clifton, New Jersey is the third most diverse city in America by languages spoken and has a proud history of being a first stop city for generations of immigrants. The city is deeply invested in the health and wellness of its young people. The Boys & Girls Club of Clifton (BGCC) serves over 6,000 youth annually, and continues to grow, remaining dedicated to the community's ever-changing needs. Currently, about a third of the city's youth engage with the Club annually. However, the need for services exceeds the capacity of the 100,000 square foot clubhouse and 13 school-based Clubs. The Boys & Girls Club of Clifton has high expectations, and aspirations to enhance the lives of the young people in the Clifton community. The Director of Operations is a key leader in driving transformation by ensuring there are systems in place to meet the ever-changing needs of the Club, placing safety and compliance as the top priority and ensuring that the facilities are in proper working order. Additionally, the Director of Operations will help develop an infrastructure for growth and development that will help propel the club toward the future.
Reporting to the COO, the Director of Operations has overall responsibility for facilities, transportation, IT systems, safety, and security, as well as operational infrastructure that ensures high-quality service delivery. The Director of Operations plays a key role in ensuring compliance with licensing requirements and maintaining key contacts with local agencies, including Fire and Police. The Director of Operations directly supervises the IT Coordinator, Bingo Coordinator, Lead Bus Driver, and maintenance staff.

Areas of Focus
Leadership
1. Strengthen a culture of commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs mission, traditions, evidence-based youth development, and trauma-informed practice.
2. Lead the development and implementation of operational infrastructure, in relation to need and available resources, to facilitate achievement of operational goals.
3. Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all facilities, safety, and security processes, and developing a broad and deep knowledge of operations.
4. Lead, coach, develop, and retain a high-performance team with an emphasis on operational excellence, problem solving, and adherence to safety protocols.
Strategic Planning
1. Evaluate the effectiveness of operational processes and recommend modifications to improve performance, as appropriate; ensure data analysis drives improvements, with an ongoing focus on safety.
2. Identify opportunities to leverage operational strengths to address challenges and best meet the needs of youth and families; support strategic initiatives led by the COO.
3. Develop and implement systems for tracking and reporting on the progress of operational goals.
Facilities Management
1. Oversee the maintenance and operation of all Boys & Girls Club facilities.
2. Develop and implement a multi-year capital maintenance and improvement plan.
3. Ensure buildings are well-maintained, safe, and compliant with health and safety standards.
4. Coordinate renovations, repairs, and other facility improvement projects as needed.
5. Support the COO in strategic planning for facility expansion and improvement to meet growing community needs.
Transportation Management (Busses)
1. Manage and coordinate the use and maintenance / repair of the organization's bus fleet.
2. Ensure compliance with state (NJDOT, NJDCF) and local transportation regulations.
3. Develop schedules and protocols for bus operations to ensure reliable transportation for members.
4. Ensure the bus drivers are compliant with NJDOT and NJDCF regulations.
5. Collaborate with program staff to optimize transportation support for program activities.
IT Systems and Infrastructure
1. Supervise the Club's IT Coordinator and oversee the organization's IT systems and infrastructure, ensuring they meet programmatic needs.
2. Work with IT vendors and contractors to ensure systems are secure and operating efficiently.
3. Identify and implement technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and program delivery.
4. Support strategic initiatives to leverage technology for enhancing youth development programs. This includes a major project in the near future to migrate to a new member management system.
Safety and Security
1. Lead safety and security efforts, working with staff, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and as the main staff member on the Safety Committee.
2. Develop, implement, and oversee safety and security protocols across all facilities.
3. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
4. Coordinate safety training for staff and implement emergency preparedness plans.
5. Work with the COO to ensure compliance with New Jersey Childcare Licensing requirements and maintain relationships with local agencies, including Fire and Police.
Vendor and Contract Management
1. Manage relationships with key vendors and contractors related to facilities, IT, transportation, and security.
2. Negotiate contracts and ensure that services are provided in line with organizational needs and budget constraints.
3. Support the COO in developing partnerships with external organizations to enhance operational capabilities.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Conversational Spanish or Arabic a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations, facilities management, or a related role, preferably within a nonprofit or youth-serving organization.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams and cross-functional projects.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and coordinate operations and oversee facilities management.
- Excellent project management skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with an ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
- Experience in managing safety, security, and compliance protocols.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to operational management.
- Experience developing, tracking, and reconciling a budget.
