Title: AREA DIRECTOR
Department: Operations
Reports to: President/CEO and/or Director of Operations
Status: Exempt – Full Time
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Area Director is the connective and supervisory staff member between the Administrative staff and the Clubs. Under the direct supervision of the President/CEO and/or the Director of Operations, the Area Director has the responsibility for supervision of the Club Directors and program staff through the established chain of command, as well as Club oversight and the effective delivery and operations of the Clubs and programs, including safety, program implementation and evaluation and development. Other areas of responsibility include staff training, Club Director and staff development, supervision and performance review, to include quarterly and annual unit and/or staff goals and objectives implemented through the chain of command, facility management, resource development, volunteer program management, transportation operations, Brand marketing and Club image.
KEY ROLES:
Organization Responsibilities
  • Positively promote the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend through, but not limited to: talking to potential members, current members, parents, community members, schools, and any form of media.
  • Participate in training sessions offered to develop knowledge of educational resources and techniques, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Big Bend.
  • Communicate with and support the Administrative and Executive Offices to continually enhance the level of services provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend.
  • Follow organizational process to have needs or concerns addressed.
  • Promote understanding and acceptance of diversity with students, members, staff, and the community.
  • Create exciting learning opportunities for all members who participate in the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend and opportunities to demonstrate positive personal and social success.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Maintains clear job responsibilities and roles for all staff.
  • Periodically review all staff performance and skills
  • Supervises care and maintenance of Club, equipment, and property.
  • Facilitates communication between staff, members, parents, school, and community, which creates an environment of help, support, professionalism, and trust.
  • Authorizes arrangements for special activities with staff and parents.
  • Interacts and communicates with other Club Directors during weekly meetings and gatherings to share ideas and ways to improve Club services.
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and supervises all extra-curricular events.
  • Establishes program objectives and activities/services to prepare youth for success to create a Club environment which facilitates the Youth Development Strategy.
  • Promotes the safety of members and quality of programs at all times.
  • Demonstrates leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
  • Plans, develops and evaluates overall programs to ensure they meet program objectives and the goals of the Youth Development Strategy.
  • Ensures administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club. Ensures compliance with organizational policies.
  • Allocates, monitors, and evaluates work assigned to Club Directors, program staff and volunteers, and provides ongoing feedback for professional development. Ensures staff understanding and use of program standards and youth development strategy.
  • Develops partnerships with parents, local organizations and community leaders.
  • Maintains close daily contact with staff, volunteers, students, and parents to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines, instruct and advise program objectives.
  • Completes tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations and/or the President/CEO.
Supervision Responsibilities
  • Communicate with all staff to establish and enforce Club Norms and Expectations that all members and staff follow.
  • Confront and de-escalate all negative and/or inappropriate behavior exhibited by members, staff, and visitors.
  • Provide support to members and staff who confront negative and/or inappropriate behaviors.
  • Provide neutralization to all members to allow them to continue to participate in programs and activities.
  • Investigate and communicate all staff and member concerns and behaviors with the Club Director and collect all required documentation.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
As assigned by the President/CEO and/or Director of Operations
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of two years management, program, or supervisory experience.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and leader to members and staff.
  • Strong commitment to youth and families and a strong belief in their potential.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating creative learning programs.
